Mineralogy and Composition of Lunar Fines and Selected Rocks
Science, 1970Mineralogical descriptions and both wet chemical analyses and microprobe analyses are given of the glasses and crystalline components of the lunar fines and of the minerals in microgabbros (samples 10050 and 10047). The principal minerals described are various clinopyroxenes, plagioclase, olivine, low cristobalite, low tridymite, ilmenite, iron-nickel,

Isotopic Composition of Rare Gases in Lunar Samples
Science, 1970Data from total melt and step-by-step heating experiments on the Apollo 11 lunar samples suggest a close affinity between lunar and meteoritic rare gases. Trapped neon-20/neon-22 ratios range from 11.5 to approximately 15, resembling those for the gas-rich meteorites.

Properties and Composition of Lunar Materials: Earth Analogies
Science, 1970The sound velocity data for the lunar rocks were compared to numerous terrestrial rock types and were found to deviate widely from them. A group of terrestrial materials were found which have velocities comparable to those of the lunar rocks, but they do obey velocity-density relations proposed for earth rocks.

Chemical Composition of the Lunar Surface in Mare Tranquillitatis
Science, 1969More precise and comprehensive analytical results have been derived for lunar material at the Surveyor V landing site from alpha-scattering data. The composition is, in general, basaltic; the low sodium and high titanium contents, however, are distinctly different from the abundances in meteorites or common terrestrial rocks.

Body composition stability in Lunar DPX
Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 1998This study examines how well a Lunar DPX can compensate for certain aging changes in its X-ray source. Total body scans were done on a phantom having variable soft tissue composition. Aging of the X-ray source was simulated by placing a thin aluminum foil over the beam exit window, and by deliberately misadjusting the high voltage power supply.

Chemical Composition of the Lunar Surface in Sinus Medii
Science, 1970More precise and comprehensive analytical results for lunar material in Sinus Medii have been derived from the alpha-scattering experiment on Surveyor VI. The amounts of the principal constituents at this mare are approximately the same as those of constituents at Mare Tranquillitatis.

Compositional Variations in Lunar Spinels
Nature Physical Science, 1971TWO principal compositional groups of spinels have so far been recognized in the lunar material, first the compositions that extend from ulvospinel (Fe2TiO4) to chromite (FeCr2O4) and that are described variously as chromian–ulvospinel, titanian–chromite and aluminian–chromite1 and, second, compositions that cluster midway between spinel (MgAl2O4) and ...

Global distribution of lunar composition: New results from Lunar Prospector
Journal of Geophysical Research: Planets, 2002Maps of thorium [Th], [FeO], the ratio of epithermal to thermal neutrons (E/T), and fast neutrons (FN) from Lunar Prospector were studied to determine their global distribution on the Moon. These distributions are compared to that of the 750 nm lunar albedo from Clementine to aid in their interpretation.

Lunar anorthosite 60025, the petrogenesis of lunar anorthosites, and the composition of the Moon
Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, 1982The mineral chemistry of the lunar anorthosite 60025 is investigated, and a model for the differentiation of the moon is proposed based on these findings. Among other results, it is concluded that 60025 is a mixture of pieces from a related sequence of anorthosites, and that this sequence was generated by near-perfect accumulate growth during strong ...

Compositional analyses of lunar pyroclastic deposits
Icarus, 2003Abstract The 5-band Clementine UVVIS data at ∼100 m/pixel were used to examine the compositions of 75 large and small lunar pyroclastic deposits (LPDs), and these were compared to representative lunar maria and highlands deposits. Results show that the albedo, spectral color, and inferred composition of most LPDs are similar to those of low-titanium,
