On the elusive isotopic composition of lunar Pb

Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, 2011
Highly radiogenic Pb isotope compositions determined for volcanic glass beads from the Apollo 14 soil sample 14163 are similar to those commonly determined for mare basalts and are correlated with chemical variations observed in the beads. This indicates that Pb unsupported by in-situ U decay has a similar origin in both glass beads and mare basalt ...

Composition of the Descartes region, lunar highlands

Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta, 1973
Abstract Analytical data for 40 elements are reported for Apollo 16 soils 60601, 61181, 61501, 64801, 67701, 68501, 65701 and breccias 60015, 60017, 60018, 60315, 61016, 61175, 65015 and 66055. The soils are uniform except for the North Ray Crater rim sample which is richer in Al2O3. The breccia components show great diversity in composition.

Planet formation: Compositional mixing and lunar compositional anomalies

Icarus, 1976
Abstract Significant fractions of each planet's late-accreted mass originated not at its own distance from the Sun, but from a neighboring planet's orbit, according to results that follow from calculations by Wetherill (1975) . “Late-accreted” refers to a loosely defined period after planets acquired most of their present mass. In an idealized model,

Anomalous lunar plagioclase composition and the composition of coexisting melt

Nature, 1974
THE anomalous composition of lunar plagioclases may be accounted for by various substitutions, principally the replacement by Fe and Mg, with some Ca and Na, of Al in tetrahedral sites in the lattice1.

Average chemical composition of the lunar surface

The Moon, 1973
The available data on the chemical composition of the lunar surface at eleven sites (3 Surveyor, 5 Apollo and 3 Luna) are used to estimate the amounts of principal chemical elements (those present in more than about 0.5% by atom) in average lunar surface material.
