Lung volume segmentation in fetal MRI: super-resolution reconstructions improve inter-rater reliability

open access: yesEuropean Radiology Experimental
Background Fetal MRI is increasingly used to investigate fetal lung pathologies, and super-resolution (SR) algorithms could be a powerful clinical tool for this assessment.

Measuring pulmonary function in COPD using quantitative chest computed tomography analysis

open access: yesEuropean Respiratory Review, 2021
COPD is diagnosed and evaluated by pulmonary function testing (PFT). Chest computed tomography (CT) primarily serves a descriptive role for diagnosis and severity evaluation.

Absolute electrical impedance tomography (aEIT) guided ventilation therapy in critical care patients: simulations and future trends [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Thoracic electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a noninvasive, radiation-free monitoring technique whose aim is to reconstruct a cross-sectional image of the internal spatial distribution of conductivity from electrical measurements made by injecting ...

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Effect of forced deflation maneuvers upon measurements of respiratory mechanics in ventilated infants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Objective: To determine the effect of forced deflation maneuvers on respiratory mechanics and to assess the reproducibility of such measurements in intubated infants with lung disease. Design and setting: Prospective study in the pediatric intensive care

Bronchial Circulation Angiogenesis in the Rat Quantified with SPECT and Micro-CT [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Introduction As pulmonary artery obstruction results in proliferation of the bronchial circulation in a variety of species, we investigated this angiogenic response using single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and micro-CT.

Does Global Lung Initiative Obviate the Need for Lung Volume Measurements? [PDF]

open access: yesRespiratory Care, 2017
Establishing the diagnosis of restrictive lung disease is often difficult and requires extensive testing not only to diagnose but also to accurately classify the underlying disease. Current clinical practice often involves an initial screening with spirometry and a subsequent measurement of ...

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

EFFECT OF DIFFERENT SITTING POSTURES IN WHEELCHAIR ON LUNG CAPACITY, EXPIRATORY FLOW IN PATIENTS OF SPINAL CORD INJURY (SCI) OF SPINE INSTITUTE OF AHMEDABAD

open access: yesNational Journal of Medical Research, 2012
Background: People with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) frequently experience various complications. Subjects with SCI are in a sitting posture for prolonged periods of time, it is important to know how different sitting postures affect pulmonary function ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...
