Lutein Influences Cisplatin Sensitivity Through Differential Regulation of DNA Damage Response Genes in Breast Cancer Cells

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Volume 40, Issue 6, June 2026.
Simultaneous treatment with lutein and cisplatin enhances oxidative DNA damage in breast cancer cells (MCF‐7 and MDA‐MB‐231) and promotes apoptosis specifically in MDA‐MB‐231 cells, while modulating DNA repair and damage response genes across cell types. Additionally, the combination increases cytotoxicity in HUVECs.

Plasma Levels of Retinoids and Carotenoids in Recipients of Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Given Extracorporeal Photopheresis to Prevent Graft‐Versus‐Host Disease—Analyses From a Randomized Trial

open access: yeseJHaem, Volume 7, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Whether retinoids and carotenoids impact on graft‐versus‐host disease (GVHD) following allogeneic stem cell transplantation (ASCT) is unknown. Methods We conducted a 1:1 randomized controlled trial with extracorporeal photopheresis for GVHD‐prophylaxis as the intervention.

Application of a D‐Optimal Mixture Design for the Development and Optimization of a Pasta Enriched With Pumpkin Products

open access: yesJournal of Food Science, Volume 91, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Fortification of wheat‐based products with high‐nutritional‐value ingredients is becoming of great interest as a strategy for producing high‐quality sustainable food products. Therefore, pumpkin products such as pulp (PPU), peel (PPE), and seed (PS) were blended into wheat pasta at different proportions and combinations using D‐optimal mixture

Novel Hydrurus species (Chrysophyceae) and their adaptations to high‐altitude European and Arctic snowfields

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, Volume 62, Issue 3, Page 818-845, June 2026.
Abstract Colored snow caused by green algae (Chlorophyceae) is well known, but melting snowpacks can also harbor golden‐brown blooms consisting of Chrysophyceae. We collected 14 samples of cryoflora in the Austrian and Swiss Alps, the High Tatras in Slovakia, and in Arctic Svalbard. Eight laboratory unicellular flagellated strains were established from

A Narrative Review of Candidate Biomarkers of Total Fruit and Vegetable Intake

open access: yesNutrition Bulletin, Volume 51, Issue 2, Page 163-184, June 2026.
ABSTRACT While an abundance of cohort studies has suggested that greater consumption of fruits and vegetables (FVs) is associated with reduced risk of chronic diseases, current self‐report based dietary assessment tools are susceptible to biases that can reduce their accuracy in estimating dietary intakes, and consequently, the risk estimates obtained ...
