Goby gummies: A customizable and edible assay to quantify predation in aquatic ecosystems
Abstract Predation is a critical ecosystem process that shapes the structure and functioning of biological communities. However, due to its intermittent nature, fast pace and general unpredictability, predation is difficult to observe and quantify. Therefore, we commonly rely on indirect metrics or proxies of predation, which reflect the outcome of ...

ABSTRACT Central to ecosystem‐based fisheries management is ensuring the sustainability of bycatch and byproduct species. However, the sustainability of these species is difficult to assess as the lack of information limits the use of traditional stock assessment methods.

ABSTRACT The consequences of mis‐managing vulnerable stocks (i.e., those with low productivity and high susceptibility to depletion) are high and potentially permanent. To support sustainable fisheries management, stock assessments can be improved by increasing the quantity and quality of fishery‐independent survey (i.e., survey) data.

Parasites of the Mutton Snapper Lutjanus analis (Perciformes: Lutjanidae) in Alagoas, Brazil [PDF]
A parasitological survey was carried out on a sample of sixty mutton snappers (Lutjanus analis) that were caught on the coast of Alagoas, northeastern Brazil. The parasite diversity and infection levels were low. The ectoparasite Rocinela signata Schioedte & Meinert, 1879 (Isopoda: Aegidae), and larvae of two endoparasites, Trypanorhyncha gen.

Abstract Clear liquid optical chamber baited remote underwater video systems (CLOC‐BRUV) are an effective option for assessing fish assemblages in turbid water, but current designs are limited by their large size and high operational costs. We developed a lightweight CLOC‐BRUV unit and evaluated its performance through proof‐of‐concept trials and field
