Lyapunov spectra of billiards with cylindrical scatterers: comparison with many-particle systems

open access: yes, 2005
The dynamics of a system consisting of many spherical hard particles can be described as a single point particle moving in a high-dimensional space with fixed hypercylindrical scatterers with specific orientations and positions.

From Stability to Chaos: A Complete Classification of the Damped Klein‐Gordon Dynamics

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We investigate the transition between stability and chaos in the damped Klein‐Gordon equation, a fundamental model for wave propagation and energy dissipation. Using semigroup methods and spectral criteria, we derive explicit thresholds that determine when the system exhibits asymptotic stability and when it displays strong chaotic dynamics ...

Weakly Coupled Distributed Calculation of Lyapunov Exponents for Non-Linear Dynamical Systems

open access: yesAlgorithms, 2017
Numerical estimation of Lyapunov exponents in non-linear dynamical systems results in a very high computational cost. This is due to the large-scale computational cost of several Runge–Kutta problems that need to be calculated.

On Class of Fractional-Order Chaotic or Hyperchaotic Systems in the Context of the Caputo Fractional-Order Derivative

open access: yesJournal of Mathematics, 2020
In this paper, we consider a class of fractional-order systems described by the Caputo derivative. The behaviors of the dynamics of this particular class of fractional-order systems will be proposed and experienced by a numerical scheme to obtain the ...

Trajectory Control of Manipulator Robots With Uncertainties: A Saturated Continuous Integral Sliding Mode Approach

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study addresses the trajectory tracking control for manipulator robots with uncertainties. The main objective is to ensure that the robot follows a desired trajectory despite the presence of uncertainties/disturbances and considering control input constraints. The approach is developed in the framework of continuous integral sliding modes.

The Lyapunov exponents for the partitioned-pipe mixer

open access: yesComputer Assisted Methods in Engineering and Science, 2023
This paper presents a mechanical model of the partitioned-pipe mixer (PPM) in case where pipe of the static mixer rotates with angular periodic velocity. Mixing becomes more efficient if the forcing of fluid mixing process is time periodic.

A pilot variational coupled reanalysis based on the CESAM climate model

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Variational data assimilation of in‐situ and satellite ocean data and reanalysis atmospheric data into an intermediate complexity Earth system model is possible by adjusting the surface fluxes and internal model parameters. This pilot application requires nearly complete information on the atmospheric state for synchronization.

Ergodic Properties of Classical SU(2) Lattice Gauge Theory

open access: yes, 1999
We investigate the relationship between the Lyapunov exponents of periodic trajectories, the average and fluctuations of Lyapunov exponents of ergodic trajectories, and the ergodic autocorrelation time for the two-dimensional hyperbola billiard.

Predictability of North Pacific blocking events: Analogue‐based analysis of historical MIROC6 simulations

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
The predictability of western and eastern North Pacific blocking events is assessed using analogue‐based diagnostics. Eastern blocks exhibit lower predictability, characterized by faster error growth and higher mean logarithmic divergence rates. The study highlights geographical contrasts in blocking stability.

Genericity of zero Lyapunov exponents

open access: yes, 2002
We show that, for any compact surface, there is a residual (dense $G_\delta$) set of $C^1$ area preserving diffeomorphisms which either are Anosov or have zero Lyapunov exponents a.e. This result was announced by R. Mane, but no proof was available.
