Die Hitzestressantwort stellt einen universellen Schutzmechanismus aller lebenden Organismen dar. Infolge einer Temperaturerhöhung werden Hitzestresstranskriptionsfaktoren (Hsf) aktiviert und bewirken eine gesteigerte Expression von Hitzestressproteinen (Hsp). Als molekulare Chaperone schützen diese die Zelle vor durch Hitze verursachten Schäden.
