Extracting Low-Lying Lambda Resonances Using Correlation Matrix Techniques

open access: yes, 2011
The lowest-lying negative-parity state of the Lambda is investigated in (2+1)-flavour full-QCD on the PACS-CS configurations made available through the ILDG. We show that a variational analysis using multiple source and sink smearings can extract a state

Extended Theory of Finite Fermi Systems: Application to the collective and non-collective E1 strength in $^{208}$Pb [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The Extended Theory of Finite Fermi Systems is based on the conventional Landau-Migdal theory and includes the coupling to the low-lying phonons in a consistent way.

Survivin and Aurora Kinase A control cell fate decisions during mitosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aurora A interacts with survivin during mitosis and regulates its centromeric role. Loss of Aurora A activity mislocalises survivin, the CPC and BubR1, leading to disruption of the spindle checkpoint and triggering premature mitotic exit, which we refer to as ‘mitotic slippage’.

Heavy Quarkonium Physics from Effective Field Theories [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
I review recent progress in heavy quarkonium physics from an effective field theory perspective. In this unifying framework, I discuss advances in perturbative calculations for low-lying quarkonium observables and in lattice calculations for high-lying ...

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Intein‐based modular chimeric antigen receptor platform for specific CD19/CD20 co‐targeting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CARtein is a modular CAR platform that uses split inteins to splice antigen‐recognition modules onto a universal signaling backbone, enabling precise, scarless assembly without re‐engineering signaling domains. Deployed here against CD19 and CD20 in B‐cell malignancies, the design supports flexible multi‐antigen targeting to boost T‐cell activation and

The game you are in: Misleading through social norms and what’s wrong with it [PDF]

open access: yesFilozofija i Društvo, 2017
This paper discusses the phenomenon of misleading about “the game you are in.” Individuals who mislead others in this way draw on the fact that we rely on social norms for regulating the levels of alertness, openness, and trust we use in ...

Two-Dimensional Electron-Hole Systems in a Strong Magnetic Field: Composite Fermion Picture for Multi-Component Plasmas

open access: yes, 1999
Electron-hole systems on a Haldane sphere are studied by exact numerical diagonalization. Low lying states contain one or more types of bound charged excitonic complexes Xk-, interacting through appropriate pseudopotentials.

Molecular characterisation of human penile carcinoma and generation of paired epithelial primary cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Generation of two normal and tumour (cancerous) paired human cell lines using an established tissue culture technique and their characterisation is described. Cell lines were characterised at cellular, protein, chromosome and gene expression levels and for HPV status.

When do we see that others misrepresent how they feel? detecting deception from emotional faces with direct and indirect measures

open access: yesSocial Influence, 2018
Nonverbally-expressed emotions are not always linked to people’s true emotions. We investigated whether observers’ ability to distinguish trues from lies differs for positive and negative emotional expressions.
