HOW LYMAN ALPHA EMISSION DEPENDS ON GALAXY STELLAR MASS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2016
ABSTRACT In this work, we show how the stellar mass (M *) of galaxies affects the 3 < z < 4.6 Lyα equivalent width (EW) distribution. To this end, we design a sample of 629 galaxies in the M * range from the ...

Chemodynamics of Lyman alpha emitters, Lyman break galaxies and elliptical galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesEAS Publications Series, 2007
We report an ultra-high-resolution simulation that follows evolution from the earliest stages of galaxy formation through the period of dynamical relaxation. The bubble structures of gas revealed in our simulation ($< 3\times 10^8$ years) resemble closely the high-redshift Lyman $α$ emitters (LAEs).

The Magellan M2FS Spectroscopic Survey of High-redshift Galaxies: The Brightest Lyman-break Galaxies at z ∼ 6

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present a study of a sample of 45 spectroscopically confirmed, UV luminous galaxies at z ∼ 6. They were selected as bright Lyman-break galaxies (LBGs) using deep multiband optical images in more than 2 deg ^2 of the sky, and subsequently identified ...

The gaseous extent of galaxies and the origin of Lyman alpha absorption systems. IV: Lyman alpha absorbers arising in a galaxy group

open access: yes, 1999
We present new GHRS observations of Lyman alpha absorption lines associated with a group of galaxies towards the QSO 1545+2101. We have identified eight distinct Lyman alpha absorption features in the spectrum of QSO 1545+2101 at a mean redshift of z=0.2648 with a velocity dispersion of 163 km/s.

MIDIS: JWST NIRCam and MIRI Unveil the Stellar Population Properties of Lyα Emitters and Lyman-break Galaxies at z ≃ 3–7

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We study the stellar population properties of 182 spectroscopically confirmed (MUSE/VLT) Ly α emitters (LAEs) and 450 photometrically selected Lyman-break galaxies (LBGs) at z = 2.8–6.7 in the Hubble Extreme Deep Field.

A GLIMPSE into the very faint end of the Hβ+[O III]λλ4960,5008 luminosity function at z ∼ 7 – 9 behind Abell S1063

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
We used the ultra-deep GLIMPSE JWST/NIRCam survey to constrain the faint end of the [O III]+Hβ luminosity function (LF) down to 1039erg s−1 at z ∼ 7 − 9 behind the lensed Hubble Frontier Field galaxy cluster Abell S1063.

The Galaxy Proximity Effect in the Lyman-alpha Forest

open access: yes, 2002
Hydrodynamic cosmological simulations predict that the average opacity of the Ly-alpha forest should increase in the neighborhood of galaxies because galaxies form in dense environments. Recent observations (Adelberger et al. 2002) confirm this expectation at large scales, but they show a decrease of absorption at comoving separations Delta_r ~ 1 Mpc/h

The JWST/PASSAGE Survey: Testing Reionization Histories with JWST’s First Unbiased Survey for Lyα Emitters at Redshifts 7.5–9.5

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Ly α emission is one of a few observable features of galaxies that can trace the neutral hydrogen content in the Universe during the Epoch of Reionization (EoR). To accomplish this, we need an efficient way to survey for Ly α emitters (LAEs) at redshifts

The Impact of Cosmic Variance on Inferences of Global Neutral Fraction Derived from Lyα Luminosity Functions during Reionization

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We investigate the impact of field-to-field variation, deriving from cosmic variance, in measured Ly α emitter (LAE) luminosity functions (LFs) and this variation’s impact on inferences of the neutral fraction of the intergalactic medium (IGM) during ...
