Automatic breast cancer grading in lymph nodes using a deep neural network [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
The progression of breast cancer can be quantified in lymph node whole-slide images (WSIs). We describe a novel method for effectively performing classification of whole-slide images and patient level breast cancer grading. Our method utilises a deep neural network.

Tumor monitoring and detection of lymph node metastasis using quantitative ultrasound and immune cytokine profiling in dogs undergoing radiation therapy: a pilot study [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Quantitative ultrasound (QUS) characterizes the composition of cells to distinguish diseased from healthy tissue. QUS can reflect the complexity of the tumor and detect early lymph node (LN) metastasis ex vivo. The objective in this study was to gather preliminary QUS and cytokine data from dogs undergoing radiation therapy and correlate QUS data with ...

Cluster-Based Learning from Weakly Labeled Bags in Digital Pathology [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
To alleviate the burden of gathering detailed expert annotations when training deep neural networks, we propose a weakly supervised learning approach to recognize metastases in microscopic images of breast lymph nodes. We describe an alternative training loss which clusters weakly labeled bags in latent space to inform relevance of patch-instances ...

Engineered MSC Aggregates with E/N‐Cadherin and IL‐6 Preconditioning for the Treatment of Systemic Sclerosis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Engineered 3D‐Cad/IL6‐MSC, developed through synergistic hE/N‐cad‐Fc and IL‐6 preconditioning, show remarkable therapeutic potential for systemic sclerosis. These engineered MSC aggregates reduce pathogenic inflammatory cell infiltration and restore immune balance among CD4+ T‐cell populations, offering a promising approach to optimize MSC based ...

Progress of Immune‐Inducible Biomaterials for Post‐Ablation Cancers

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The presence of residual tumors after ablative therapies poses a significant challenge, generally resulting in recurrence and metastases. This review offers a concise overview of immune‐inducible biomaterials from the perspective of the cancer‐immunity cycle, and how they enhance antitumor immunity through diverse mechanisms following ablative ...

Meply: A Large-scale Dataset and Baseline Evaluations for Metastatic Perirectal Lymph Node Detection and Segmentation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Accurate segmentation of metastatic lymph nodes in rectal cancer is crucial for the staging and treatment of rectal cancer. However, existing segmentation approaches face challenges due to the absence of pixel-level annotated datasets tailored for lymph nodes around the rectum.

Immunosuppressive Formulations for Immunological Defense against Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A novel subcutaneous formulation combining alpha‐ketoglutarate, glycolysis inhibitor PFK15, and a myelin peptide reduces inflammation in a mouse TBI model. This formulation promotes regulatory immune cells, enhances autophagy, and improves motor function, suggesting its potential as a prophylactic immunosuppressive therapy to mitigate TBI‐induced ...

Imiquimod‐Loaded Phospholipid‐Free Small Unilamellar Vesicles Activate the Tumor Immune Microenvironment to Treat Liver Cancer and Liver Metastases

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Imiquimod‐loaded nanoparticles (PFSUV‐IMQ) are found to decrease liver metastasis and liver tumor burden when administered intravenously. Flow cytometry, RNA‐seq and various experiments show that the anti‐tumor response is immune‐mediated by activating dendritic cells resulting in increased CD8 T cell infiltration and activity.
