Extent of surgery in cancer of the colon : is more better? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Since the introduction of total mesorectal excision as the standard approach in mid and low rectal cancer, the incidence of local recurrence has sharply declined. Similar attention to surgical technique in colon cancer (CC) has resulted in the concept of

Robot-Assisted Thoracoscopic Tumor Resection of Lymph Node Metastasis of an Unknown Primary Site: A Case Report

open access: yesTokyo Women's Medical University Journal, 2020
Cancer of an unknown primary site (CUP) accounts for approximately 3% of all cancer cases. Among these cases, mediastinal lymph node cancer is comparatively rare, and there are no established treatment methods or approaches.

Single-strand selective monofunctional uracil-DNA glycosylase (SMUG1) deficiency is linked to aggressive breast cancer and predicts response to adjuvant therapy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Uracil in DNA is an important cause of mutagenesis. SMUG1 is a uracil DNA glycosylase that removes uracil through base excision repair. SMUG1 also processes radiation induced oxidative base damage as well as 5-fluorouracil incorporated into DNA during

Lymph node ratio, number of excised nodes and sentinel-node concepts in breast cancer [PDF]

open access: yesBreast Cancer Research and Treatment, 2010
We read with great interest the review by Pepels et al. [1] on the safety of withholding axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) to the patients with clinically node-negative breast cancer. According to the survival and local control results from the NSABP B-32 randomised phase 3 trial [2] the authors concluded that in the patients with T1 or small T2 ...
