Safety Assessment and Hypoglycemic Effect of Moringa oleifera Lam. Seed Lectin (WSMoL) in Alloxan‐Induced Diabetic Mice

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Moringa oleifera Lam. seeds contain WSMoL, a lectin previously studied for toxicity and pharmacological effects. In this study, we investigated WSMoL (10, 25, or 50 mg/kg i.p.) for acute and 14‐day repeated‐dose toxicity, as well as genotoxicity, in Swiss mice.

A New Diagnostic Approach Using the NLR/LMR Ratio in the Differential Diagnosis of Neck Masses: Hematologic Evaluation of Patients With Cervical Lymphadenopathy

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
This study evaluates complete blood count–derived inflammatory ratios for differentiating lymphoma from benign cervical lymphadenopathies. The novel NLR/LMR ratio demonstrated superior diagnostic performance (AUC = 0.71, OR = 4.6) compared with conventional indices.

Relative Lymphopenia in Cushing's Syndrome

open access: yesFolia Endocrinologica Japonica, 1993
The differential white blood cell (WBC) count often reveals relative lymphopenia in Cushing's syndrome and may be a clue to the discovery of the ailment. However, the incidence of this finding has rarely been reported in the literature. We conducted a study on 40 patients with Cushing's syndrome due to adrenocortical adenoma to evaluate the diagnostic ...

The Prognostic Value of EDRIC and Its Association With Radiation‐Induced Lymphopenia in Patients With Esophageal Cancer Undergoing Radical Radiotherapy: A Single‐Center Chinese Study

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of the estimated dose of radiation to immune cells (EDRIC) in patients with esophageal cancer receiving radical radiotherapy. We retrospectively reviewed the data of patients with esophageal cancer who underwent definitive radiotherapy at our institution.

Lymphopenia in sepsis: a narrative review

open access: yesCritical Care
This narrative review provides an overview of the evolving significance of lymphopenia in sepsis, emphasizing its critical function in this complex and heterogeneous disease. We describe the causal relationship of lymphopenia with clinical outcomes, sustained immunosuppression, and its correlation with sepsis prediction markers and therapeutic targets.

TRIM Expression and Its Association With Disease Activity in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease with diverse manifestations, including rash, arthritis, and nephritis. Although autoantibodies are a key feature of SLE, their levels often poorly reflect disease severity, suggesting the involvement of additional contributing factors.

Role of Lymphopenia in Early prediction of Infection Following Orthotopic Liver Transplantation in Cirrhotic Patients

open access: yesTransplant International
Infections remain a main cause of morbidity and mortality following orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT). Patients with end-stage liver cirrhosis exhibit a deregulation of their immune response, making them more susceptible to infections.

In Utero HSC Transplantation for Sickle Cell Disease: A Potential Therapeutic Approach That Overcomes Complications of Current Therapies

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sickle cell disease (SCD) affects millions worldwide but has limited treatment options, most of which carry significant side effects. At present, the only curative treatment for SCD is allogeneic or gene‐modified autologous hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) transplantation (Tx).

Anti-PD-1 antibody enhances homeostatic proliferation–induced antitumor immunity during lymphopenia recovery

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
IntroductionLymphopenia induced by radiotherapy or chemotherapy can promote homeostatic proliferation of residual or adoptive lymphocytes, potentially enhancing antitumor immunity. However, this immunity diminishes rapidly with tumor progression, and the

Clinical impact of transient lymphopenia

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Medicine
AbstractTransient or persistent immunosuppression is a known risk factor for morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients. Aim of the present study is to evaluate the lymphopenia in patients admitted to the Emergency Unit of AOU Policlinico Umberto I, to investigate its prevalence at admission and the persistence during hospitalization until ...
