Histiocytes: Multifaceted Regulators of Health and Disease

open access: yesVeterinary Clinical Pathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The mononuclear phagocyte system encompasses macrophages, dendritic cells (DCs), and monocytes. Tissue‐resident macrophages and dendritic cells arise during embryogenesis and are replenished either through self‐renewal or by monocytes during inflammation.

Moderate maternal nutrient restriction alters type II alveolar epithelial cell density in the non‐human primate fetal lung

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Restriction of fetal substrate supply has an adverse effect on surfactant maturation in the lung and thus affects the transition from in utero placental oxygenation to pulmonary ventilation ex utero. However, the consequences of reduced fetal substrate supply are dependent on the timing of gestation, severity and duration.

Inhibition of SLC11A1‐Mediated Lysosomal Iron Accumulation in Microglia Promotes Repair Following White Matter Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 19, 2 April 2026.
Genetic and pharmacological inhibition of SLC11A1 functioning as an H+/Fe2+ antiporter–mediated lysosomal iron accumulation in microglia promotes lysosomal lumen acidification, increases CTSD expression, enhances lysosomal myelin debris uptake and degradation, and promotes repair following white matter stroke. ABSTRACT White matter stroke (WMS) results

Untargeted Metabolomics Identifies N‐Lactoyl‐Amino Acids as Dose‐Responsive Plasma Biomarkers of Metformin Adherence in Type 2 Diabetes

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 119, Issue 4, Page 1057-1069, April 2026.
Metformin is the most widely prescribed antidiabetic drug, yet adherence remains difficult to objectively assess. Using untargeted metabolomics and lipidomics, we analyzed plasma from 637 patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) with confirmed metformin use and 143 nondiabetic controls, annotating 614 metabolites.

Annual Banned‐Substance Review 18th Edition—Analytical Approaches in Human Sports Drug Testing 2024/2025

open access: yesDrug Testing and Analysis, Volume 18, Issue 4, Page 458-482, April 2026.
New insights into drug metabolism, distribution, elimination, and detection assays for drugs and methods of sports doping published between 2024 and 2025 are critically reviewed and evaluated in context with the Prohibited List 2025 as established by the World Anti‐Doping Agency.

Neuronal Activity Promotes Node‐Like Cluster Assembly Prior to Myelination and Remyelination in the Central Nervous System

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 4, April 2026.
Ronzano et al. show that neuronal activity promotes node‐like cluster (NLC) formation before (re)myelination by regulating β1Nav and Nav1.1, which are essential for NLC assembly. This may represent an intermediate step in activity‐driven myelination and contribute to the regulation of axonal conduction.

Identification of Blood Pressure‐Associated Metabolites by Integrating Metabolomic and Genetic Analysis

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 4, April 2026.
This study identified 10 potential causality between metabolites and blood pressure and found potential genetic regulators of two metabolites. Multiomics integration revealed that a genetic variant near the omega‐3 metabolism genes (FADS1/FADS2) may influence blood pressure regulation by modulating prostaglandin E3 levels.

Lipid Metabolism and Obesity in Early Life: Drivers of Chronic Lung Disease From Development to Adulthood

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 70, Issue 7, 15 April 2026.
Metabolic and nutritional stressors are a growing global health concern. This review discusses how obesity, lipids, and lipid derivatives influence lung development, homeostasis, and chronic lung disease progression, highlighting roles of alveolar surfactant and sphingolipids.

pH‐Dependent Microenvironmental Ionic Signaling in Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma

open access: yesActa Physiologica, Volume 242, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) develops within a uniquely dynamic pH landscape shaped by substantial acid–base fluxes produced by the exocrine pancreas. Secretion of alkaline pancreatic juice, normally linked to digestion, produces intermittent acidifications of the pancreatic interstitium, which challenges epithelial and stromal ...
