Reprogramming Glial Cell Metabolism via a tRNA Fragment Preserves Vision in Retinal Neurodegeneration

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 8, August 2026.
Under oxidative and excitotoxic stress, Müller cell‐derived 5′tiRNA‐His‐GTG contributes to retinal neurodegeneration. Pathological stimuli increase ANG‐dependent production of 5′tiRNA‐His‐GTG, which suppresses LPCAT1 expression and disrupts phosphatidylcholine (PC)‐mediated glycerophospholipid metabolism.

Macrophage: Biological Functions, Diseases, and Therapeutic Targets

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 8, August 2026.
Macrophages are sentinel innate immune cells that arise from embryonic precursors and bone marrow monocytes, displaying a functional continuum that transcends the classical M1 (pro‐inflammatory)/M2 (anti‐inflammatory) dichotomy. Under homeostatic conditions, balanced M1/M2 polarization preserves tissue integrity by coordinating immune surveillance ...

The Dietary Protein Source Modulates Obesity Development and Induces Distinct Plasma Lipid Profiles and Transcriptome Profiles in Liver and Adipose Tissue

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 70, Issue 15, 17 August 2026.
By performing plasma metabolomics analyses combined with RNA sequencing and gene set enrichment analyses of liver, muscle, white‐ and brown‐adipose tissue in mice, we aimed to decipher the metabolic output and pathways modulated by intake of different dietary proteins.

Isothiocyanates as Ferroptosis Inducers to Promote Cancer Cell Death

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, Volume 40, Issue 8, Page 5119-5131, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Cancer remains a leading cause of global mortality, with the therapeutic efficacy of anticancer drugs often hampered by late diagnosis and the development of chemotherapy resistance. Ferroptosis is an iron‐dependent form of regulated non‐apoptotic cell death driven by lipid peroxidation.

Adolescent Dietary Supplementation of Omega‐3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids Alleviates PTSD‐Like Fear Memory and Affective Dysregulation in Rats

open access: yesSmart Medicine, Volume 5, Issue 4, August 2026.
Adolescent omega‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acid supplementation enhances resilience to trauma in adulthood. DHA/EPA intake restores gut microbial balance, reprograms lipid metabolism, and normalizes prefrontal PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling. These changes may collectively mitigate PTSD‐like fear memory and affective dysregulation. ABSTRACT Post‐traumatic stress

Steroidogenic compensation and lipid deficiency with enhanced NAD+ salvage in small‐for‐gestational‐age placenta

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 15, Page 4554-4577, August 2026.
Fetal growth restriction is associated with placental metabolic adaptations. In small‐for‐gestational‐age placenta (SGA), cholesterol receptors and steroidogenic enzymes are upregulated, enhancing steroidogenesis. NAD salvage pathway is also increased to support NADP+/NADPH requirements.
