A mechanism of erythrocyte lysis by lysophosphatidylcholine
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Biomembranes, 1979Lysophosphatidylcholine micelles liberate several cell surface polypeptides from erythrocyte membranes, inducing a sodium-selective permeability defect which leads to colloid osmotic lysis. Evidence is presented to support the hypothesis that at the lowest lytic lysophospholipid concentrations, selective disruption of membrane protein function, rather ...

Enzyme affinity in the acylation of lysophosphatidylcholine
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 1977Analogues of 1-palmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine were used to ascertain the respective roles of the 1-palmitoyl-sn-glycero and choline groups in binding this substrate to the transferase catalyzing the acylation reaction. 1-Palmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphorylhomocholine proved to be an effective competitive inhibitor whereas 1-palmitoyl-2 ...

Effect of lysophosphatidylcholine on atherosclerotic rabbit arteries
Atherosclerosis, 1989We report here on the effect of an endothelium-dependent vascular smooth muscle relaxant, lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) on rabbit aortic strips and on hemodynamic changes by LPC in atherosclerotic animals. Cyclic GMP changes induced by LPC in atherosclerotic vessels were also determined.

Inhibitory Effects of Lysophosphatidylcholine on the Dopaminergic System
Neurochemical Research, 2004Lysophosphatidylcholine (lyso-PTC) is formed by phospholipase A2 (PLA2) from phosphatidylcholine (PTC), that is produced through phosphatidylethanolamine (PTE) methylation. 1-Methyl-4-phenyl-pyridinium (MPP+), a Parkinson's disease (PD) inducing agent, and S-adenosylmethionine (SAM), a biological methyl donor, increase lyso-PTC formation and both ...

Lysophosphatidylcholine: an enigmatic lysolipid
American Journal of Physiology-Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology, 2005increased endothelial permeability of pulmonary microvessels is the major contributor of acute lung injury, sepsis, and acute respiratory distress syndrome ([2][1], [7][2]). Studies have established that change in cell shape resulting in concurrent formation of gaps between endothelial cells is ...

[8] Lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase
1992Publisher Summary This chapter discusses lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase. Lyso-PC:acyl-CoA acyltransferase activity is detected in various mammalian tissues, bacteria, protozoa, and plants. The transfer of acyl groups from acyl-CoA to 1-acylglycerophosphocholine (1-acyl-GPC) is catalyzed by 1-acyl-GPC: acyl-CoA acyltransferase, whereas ...
