This work describes the screening of a M. bovis BCG cosmid library in M. smegmatis with a hyperimmune rabbit anti-BCG serum. Cross-reactive antibodies interfere with the detection of BCG specific antigens in M. smegmatis culture filtrates. We, therefore, screened parallel western blots with serum adsorbed with a M.

The incidence of bovine tuberculosis (TB) continues to rise, and causes significant economic losses worldwide. The causative agent of bovine TB, Mycobacterium bovis, is closely related to the human pathogen M. tuberculosis, and yet these two organisms differ profoundly in their ability to cause disease in cattle.

Monocyte-derived macrophage cytokine responses induced by M. bovis BCG
Tubercle and Lung Disease, 2000One important aspect of macrophage function is the production of inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines, which in turn affect the survival of intracellular organisms such as mycobacteria. To determine the relationship between phagocytosis of mycobacteria and expression of intracellular cytokines.Phagocytosis and cytokine production were studied ...

Currently, the Chilean authority has implemented a National Eradication Program for bovine tuberculosis (bTB), aimed at controlling and eradicating the disease in Chile. The area under study has a low within-herd prevalence, has a relatively low number of infected herds, and is one of the major milk and beef producing areas in the country.

Mycoplasma bovis antiserum "Dessau" was used to investigate 4,553 mycoplasma strains, between 1985 and 1987, using a method described elsewhere. This diagnostic Agent is successfully used at present at all Regional Institutes of Veterinary Services throughout the GDR.

Potency of PPD preparations derived from M. tuberculosis and M. bovis.
Annales immunologiae Hungaricae, 1980No significant difference was found between the biological activity of PPD-preparations derived from M. tuberculosis and M. bovis, although the latter was more potent. In potency tests performed in guinea-pigs, the use of difference mycobacteria as sensitizing agents had no influence on the result of the assay.

[Experimental infections of bulls with Mycoplasma (M.) bovis and M. bovigenitalium].
Archiv fur experimentelle Veterinarmedizin, 1990M. bovis or M. bovigenitalium species experimentally used in intrapreputial infection were re-isolated from 7 of 8 bulls. Clinically manifest diseases did not develop at all, though slight inflammatory lesions were recorded from the genital tract of 2 animals.

Genetic relatedness among Mycobacterium tuberculosis and M. bovis.
Acta leprologica, 1989Total DNA from two slowly-growing pathogenic mycobacterial species propagated in vitro was isolated, digested with each of 34 restriction endonucleases and analyzed by agarose gel electrophoresis. The most resolved patterns for M. tuberculosis (ATCC 27294) and for M.
