Agonist-induced desensitization and phosphorylation of m1-muscarinic receptors [PDF]
Pre-stimulation of Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells expressing the human m1-muscarinic receptor (CHO-m1 cells) with a maximally effective concentration of the muscarinic agonist methacholine resulted in desensitization of Ins(1,4,5)P3 accumulation, apparent as a ∼ 4-fold shift in the agonist dose–response curve.

A Cholinergic Synaptically Triggered Event Participates in the Generation of Persistent Activity Necessary for Eye Fixation [PDF]
An exciting topic regarding integrative properties of the nervous system is how transient motor commands or brief sensory stimuli are able to evoke persistent neuronal changes, mainly as a sustained, tonic action potential firing.

M1 muscarinic acetylcholine receptor dysfunction in moderate Alzheimer’s disease pathology [PDF]
AbstractAggregation of amyloid beta and loss of cholinergic innervation in the brain are predominant components of Alzheimer’s disease pathology and likely underlie cognitive impairment. Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors are one of the few treatment options for Alzheimer’s disease, where levels of available acetylcholine are enhanced to counteract the ...

Inhibition of Subsets of G Protein-coupled Receptors by Empty Mutants of G Protein α Subunits in Go, G11, and G16 [PDF]
We previously reported that the xanthine nucleotide binding Goα mutant, GoαX, inhibited the activation of Gi-coupled receptors. We constructed similar mutations in G11α and G16α and characterized their nucleotide binding and receptor interaction.

Muscarinic toxin 7 (MT7) is a mamba venom peptide that binds selectively to the M1 muscarinic acetylcholine receptor. We have previously shown that the second (ECL2) and third (ECL3) extracellular loops of the M1 receptor are critically involved in ...

Antipsychotic-like effect of the muscarinic acetylcholine receptor agonist BuTAC in non-human primates. [PDF]
Cholinergic, muscarinic receptor agonists exhibit functional dopamine antagonism and muscarinic receptors have been suggested as possible future targets for the treatment of schizophrenia and drug abuse. The muscarinic ligand (5R,6R)-6-(3-butylthio-1,2,5-

Striatal cholinergic interneurons generate beta and gamma oscillations in the corticostriatal circuit and produce motor deficits [PDF]
Cortico-basal ganglia-thalamic (CBT) neural circuits are critical modulators of cognitive and motor function. When compromised, these circuits contribute to neurological and psychiatric disorders, such as Parkinson's disease (PD).
