We present observations, which are part of an ongoing investigation, of the CO (J=1–0) emission in the spiral galaxy M51. The spectra were obtained in a beamswitched on-on mode with the Onsala 20 m antenna (beam size ~33″), equipped with a cooled mixer and a 512 ×1 MHz multichannel receiver, and are shown in Figure 1.

Chandra Probes the X-Ray Variability of M51 ULX-7: Evidence of Propeller Transition and X-Ray Dips on Orbital Periods [PDF]
We report on the temporal properties of the ultraluminous X-ray (ULX) pulsar M51 ULX-7 inferred from the analysis of the 2018–2020 Swift/X-ray Telescope monitoring data and archival Chandra data obtained over a period of 33 days in 2012.

X-Ray Spectroscopic Evidence of Charge Exchange Emission in the Disk of M51 [PDF]
In the disks of spiral galaxies, diffuse soft X-ray emission is known to be strongly correlated with star-forming regions. However, this emission is not simply from a thermal-equilibrium plasma and its origin remains greatly unclear.

Industry 4.0 and Current Competencies
There is a growing gap between higher education systems and the needs and demands of the labor market. Many of today’s students will work at jobs that just have emerged or do not even exist yet. The “newcomers” will need both digital and social-emotional

AbstractOne of the major problems with 3D spectroscopy is the adequate and meaningful display and analysis of large image cubes. We use linear mixture modeling to analyze multispectral CCD images of M51 in the visible and near-IR. We find that M51 can be modeled within the noise limits of the data as a linear combination of six components taken three ...

An Exceptional Dimming Event for a Massive, Cool Supergiant in M51 [PDF]
We present the discovery of an exceptional dimming event in a cool supergiant star in the Local Volume spiral M51. The star, dubbed M51-DS1, was found as part of a Hubble Space Telescope (HST) search for failed supernovae (SNe).

A Lack of Resolved Near-Infrared Polarization Across the Face of M51 [PDF]
The galaxy M51 was observed using the Mimir instrument on the Perkins telescope to constrain the resolved H-band (1.6 $\mu$m) polarization across the galaxy.

Optical Identification and Spectroscopy of Supernova Remnants in the Galaxy M51 [PDF]
Using a combination of ground-based and Hubble Space Telescope imaging, we have constructed a catalog of 179 supernova remnants (SNRs) and SNR candidates in the nearby spiral galaxy M51.

The Whirlpool Galaxy (M 51) and Companion Galaxy [PDF]
This Hubble Space Telescope image shows the stellar fireworks seen in the core of the Whirlpool Galaxy, also known as M51. The back of this image describes the history of how astronomers have viewed this galaxy over the last 150 years.
