Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Local Edge Machine (Lem)

open access: yes, 2016
Local Edge Machine (LEM) Beginning with time-series gene expression data, the Local Edge Machine (LEM) seeks to find functional network models capable of exhibiting the dynamic behavior of the data. It combines nonlinear kinetic equations, a Bayesian framework, and a local approximation to the system of differential equations that relies on sparse ...

Machine Learning Nonlocal Correlations [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
The ability to witness non-local correlations lies at the core of foundational aspects of quantum mechanics and its application in the processing of information. Commonly, this is achieved via the violation of Bell inequalities. Unfortunately, however, their systematic derivation quickly becomes unfeasible as the scenario of interest grows in ...

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Simulation of Adiabatic Shear Bands in Orthogonal Machining of Ti6Al4V Using a Rigid-Viscoplastic Finite Element Analysis

open access: yesMetals, 2020
Catastrophic shear instability is the dominant mechanism during orthogonal cutting of Ti6Al4V. Chip segmentation even at low speeds testifies to the emergence of some kind of instability during plastic deformation of the material.

Machine-Generated Text Localization

open access: yesFindings of the Association for Computational Linguistics ACL 2024
Machine-Generated Text (MGT) detection aims to identify a piece of text as machine or human written. Prior work has primarily formulated MGT detection as a binary classification task over an entire document, with limited work exploring cases where only part of a document is machine generated.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

A new approach of high speed cutting modelling: SPH method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The purpose of this study is to introduce a new approach of high speed cutting numerical modelling. A lagrangian Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) based model is carried out using the Ls-Dyna software.
