3D-CNN for Facial Micro- and Macro-expression Spotting on Long Video Sequences using Temporal Oriented Reference Frame

open access: yesProceedings of the 30th ACM International Conference on Multimedia, 2022
Facial expression spotting is the preliminary step for micro- and macro-expression analysis. The task of reliably spotting such expressions in video sequences is currently unsolved. The current best systems depend upon optical flow methods to extract regional motion features, before categorisation of that motion into a specific class of facial movement.

Role of M1 macrophages in diabetic foot ulcers and related immune regulatory mechanisms

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2023
Objectives: Diabetes foot ulcers (DFUs) are characterized by immune infiltration of M1 macrophages observed in foot skin, in which immune-associated genes (IRGs) play a prominent role.

Social alienation in schizophrenia patients: association with insula responsiveness to facial expressions of disgust. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
INTRODUCTION: Among the functional neuroimaging studies on emotional face processing in schizophrenia, few have used paradigms with facial expressions of disgust.

Integrated genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenetic analyses identify a leukotriene synthesis-related M2 macrophage gene signature that predicts prognosis and treatment vulnerability in gliomas

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
The pathological implications of tumor-associated macrophages in the glioma microenvironment have been highlighted, while there lacks a gene signature to characterize the functional status and clinical implications of these cells.

Untargeted sequencing of circulating microRNAs in a healthy and diseased older population

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
We performed untargeted profiling of circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) in a well characterized cohort of older adults to verify associations of health and disease-related biomarkers with systemic miRNA expression.

Exceptions, Continuations and Macro-expressiveness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
This paper studies the problem of expressing exceptions using first-class continuations in a functional-imperative language. The main result is that exceptions cannot be macro-expressed using first-class continuations and references (contrary to "folklore"). This is shown using two kinds of counterexample.

N-Step Pre-Training and Décalcomanie Data Augmentation for Micro-Expression Recognition

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Facial expressions are divided into micro- and macro-expressions. Micro-expressions are low-intensity emotions presented for a short moment of about 0.25 s, whereas macro-expressions last up to 4 s.

Search for stellar gravitational collapse by MACRO: Characteristics and results

open access: yes, 1992
The first MACRO lower supermodule has been sensitive to antineutrinos from stellar gravitational collapse since spring 1989. The results with the 44 tonnes of liquid scintillator which have been instrumented to search for stellar gravitational collapse ...

Differential modulation of adhesion molecule expression by hydroxycarbamide in human endothelial cells from the micro- and macrocirculation: potential implications in sickle cell disease vasoocclusive events

open access: yesHaematologica, 2011
Background All the cellular partners of the vascular system and especially endothelial cells are involved in the pathophysiology of the vasoocclusive crises associated with sickle cell disease.

Blood M2-like Monocyte Polarization Is Associated with Calcific Plaque Phenotype in Stable Coronary Artery Disease: A Sub-Study of SMARTool Clinical Trial

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2022
Background: Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease. The balance between pro- and anti-inflammatory factors, acting on the arterial wall, promotes less or more coronary plaque macro-calcification, respectively.
