2018A significant constraint to the development of fundamental and applied research on macroalgae is the capacity to maintain representative cultures of living material ex situ. This is also relevant for their commercial exploitation, where seasonal factors may limit the availability of seed stock for commercial-scale cultivation.

Allelochemistry in marine macroalgae

When the donor and receptor are plants (or microorganisms placed in the plant kingdom), allelopathy is described whether the effect is harmful or beneficial.

Photorespiration and ?-carboxylation in brown macroalgae
Planta, 1980Photorespiration has been assayed in a variety of marine macroalgae by the Warburg oxygen inhibitory effect and the percentage(14)C-labeling of glycine and serine.
