Cavity-containing, backbone-rigidified foldamers and macrocycles

Chemical Communications, 2012
This Feature Article gives an account for a host of readily available foldamers and macrocycles with well-defined shapes and non-deformable cavities that appeared over the last decade. Efforts to create porous molecular structures have led to the establishment of an effective strategy for enforcing the folding of unnatural aromatic oligoamide strands ...

Tuning the Chiral Cavity of Macrocyclic Receptor for Chiral Recognition and Discrimination

Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2008
The size and shape of the chiral cavity of a macrocyclic receptor were tuned by the alteration of the binaphthyl moiety to improve the chiral recognition/discrimination ability. For example, host 3 with the 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl group at the 3,3'-positions showed improved enantioselectivity for small molecules such as 2-chloropropionic acid ...

Tuning the size of macrocyclic cavities in trianglimine macrocycles

Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry, 2005
The synthesis of aromatic dicarboxaldehydes is described along with their reactivity in the [3 + 3] cyclocondensation reaction with (1R,2R)-diaminocyclohexane to give trianglimine macrocycles. In particular, the scope and limitation of the reaction with regard to complete control of the cavity size of the macrocycles is discussed producing a total of ...

Naphthotubes: Macrocyclic Hosts with a Biomimetic Cavity Feature

Accounts of Chemical Research, 2019
Macrocyclic hosts are the principal tools used in supramolecular chemistry because they can recognize other small molecules through non-covalent interactions. However, in terms of recognition ability, known macrocyclic hosts are often not comparable to bioreceptors.

Molecularly imprinted cavities template the macrocyclization of tetrapeptides

Chemical Communications, 2008
Cavities formed using cyclic tetrapeptides (CTPs) or heat-induced conformers act as templates for cyclization; the cavities bind to linear tetrapeptides and enforce turn conformations to enhance cyclization to constrained CTPs.

Molecular Assemblies Offering Hydrogen-Bonding Cavities: Influence of Macrocyclic Cavity and Hydrogen Bonding on Dye Adsorption

Inorganic Chemistry, 2022
This work presents a set of Hg macrocycles of amide-phosphine-based ligands offering H-bonding cavities of different dimensions. Such macrocycles are shown to selectively adsorb anionic dyes followed by neutral dyes as well as Prontosil, a biologically relevant antibiotic, within their cavities with the aid of H-bonding-assisted encapsulation.

Novel π-Expanded Radialene Macrocycles with Inner Cavity

Organic Letters, 2004
[structure: see text] Polyenyne macrocycles with pi-extended [9]- and [12]radialene frameworks have been synthesized. These radialenes exhibit restricted rotation of the aromatic rings, and the D3- and D4-symmetric structures in solutions have been determined by dynamic NMR.
