“Candidatus Trichorickettsia mobilis”, a Rickettsiales bacterium, can be transiently transferred from the unicellular eukaryote Paramecium to the planarian Dugesia japonica [PDF]
Most of the microorganisms responsible for vector-borne diseases (VBD) have hematophagous arthropods as vector/reservoir. Recently, many new species of microorganisms phylogenetically related to agents of VBD were found in a variety of aquatic eukaryotic

A Family of Developmentally Excised DNA Elements in \u3cem\u3eTetrahymena\u3c/em\u3e is under Selective Pressure to Maintain an Open Reading Frame Encoding an Integrase-Like Protein [PDF]
Tlr1 is a member of a family of ~20-30 DNA elements that undergo developmentally regulated excision during formation of the macronucleus in the ciliated protozoan Tetrahymena.

Abstract This case report presents a recent case of scuticociliatosis in a whitetip reef shark (Triaenodon obesus), housed at a zoo (Haus des Meeres Aqua Terra Zoo, Vienna, Austria). Clinical signs such as uncoordinated swimming and body tilt were observed prior to death.

The Macronucleus of Spirostomum
THE purpose of this communication is to describe an interesting property of the macronucleus of a species of Spirostomum, a large freshwater ciliate. The nuclear apparatus of this animal consists of a long cylindrical macronucleus and a number of small micronuclei. The cytology of this species has been described by Seshachar and Padmavathi1.

The ciliated protozoan Tetrahymena has two nuclei: a germ line micronucleus and a somatic macronucleus. The transcriptionally active macronucleus has about 50 copies of each chromosome.

Pulmonary cytology: Pearls and pitfalls of non‐neoplastic mimics of lung cancer
Abstract Lung cancer continues to be the leading cause of cancer‐related mortality, with cytologic samples often serving as the primary diagnostic tool. However, differentiating between benign and malignant processes in lung cytology can be difficult because various non‐neoplastic conditions closely resemble malignant lesions, which may lead to ...

Background DNA elimination is developmentally programmed in a wide variety of eukaryotes, including unicellular ciliates, and leads to the generation of distinct germline and somatic genomes. The ciliate Paramecium tetraurelia harbors two types of nuclei
