Serum prolactin and macroprolactin levels among outpatients with major depressive disorder following the administration of selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors: a cross-sectional pilot study. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Clinical trials evaluating the rate of short-term selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitor (SSRI)-induced hyperprolactinemia have produced conflicting results.

Untreated Giant Macroprolactinoma with Chronic Cerebrospinal Fluid Leakage: An Unusual Complication

open access: yesCase Reports in Endocrinology, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
Macroprolactinoma has the potential to cause base of skull erosion and often extends into the sphenoid sinus. Rapid shrinkage of this invasive tumor following dopamine agonist therapy has been postulated to cause unplugging of the eroded area, leading to cerebrospinal fluid leakage.

Emergence of Pituitary Adenoma in a Child during Surveillance: Clinical Challenges and the Family Members’ View in an AIP Mutation‐Positive Family

open access: yesInternational Journal of Endocrinology, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Introduction. Germline aryl hydrocarbon receptor‐interacting protein (AIP) mutations are responsible for 15–30% of familial isolated pituitary adenomas (FIPAs). We report a FIPA kindred with a heterozygous deletion in AIP, aiming to highlight the indications and benefits of genetic screening, variability in clinical presentations, and management ...

A macroprolactinemia--da determinação laboratorial ao seu significado clínico.

open access: yesActa Médica Portuguesa, 2011
Since prolactin (PRL) (a hormone produced by the anterior pituitary) was first identificated, the existence of hyperprolactinemic syndrome has been recognized.

The frequency of macroprolactinemia in pregnant women and the heterogeneity of its etiologies. [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1996
We surveyed pregnant women for macroprolactinemia and examined the heterogeneity of its etiologies. Serum samples obtained from 105 pregnant women (29.7 +/- 4.4 yr) during the third trimester were treated with polyethylene glycol, and 3 women (2.9%) were found to have a significantly high proportion of precipitated prolactin (PRL).

Stress‐Induced Hyperprolactinemia: Pathophysiology and Clinical Approach

open access: yesObstetrics and Gynecology International, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
While prolactin is most well known for its role in lactation and suppression of reproduction, its physiological functions are quite diverse. There are many etiologies of hyperprolactinemia, including physiologic as well as pathologic causes. Physiologic causes include pregnancy, lactation, sleep‐associated, nipple stimulation and sexual orgasm, chest ...

Sexual Dysfunction and Hyperprolactinemia in Male Psychotic Inpatients: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesAdvances in Urology, Volume 2011, Issue 1, 2011., 2011
Introduction. Sexual dysfunction (SD) and hyperprolactinemia are frequently reported in patients with psychotic disorders and have the potential for severe complications but investigations in males are particularly scarce. The primary aims were to determine the prevalence of SD and hyperprolactinemia in male patients and to investigate whether ...

Prevalence of Macroprolactinemia in Patients with Hyperprolactinemia Using Roche Elecsys Platform in a Large Tertiary Referral Center in UAE

open access: yesDubai Diabetes and Endocrinology Journal, 2021
Objectives: Macroprolactin (macroPRL) excess is an important cause of hyperprolactinemia. Several prolactin assays have high reactivity to macroPRL. However, macroPRL screening is not routinely performed in many labs.

Utility of cannulated prolactin to exclude stress hyperprolactinemia in patients with persistent mild hyperprolactinemia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Background: Stress-induced hyperprolactinemia can be difficult to differentiate from true hyperprolactinema and may result in patients having unnecessary investigations and imaging.
