Untreated Giant Macroprolactinoma with Chronic Cerebrospinal Fluid Leakage: An Unusual Complication

open access: yesCase Reports in Endocrinology, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
Macroprolactinoma has the potential to cause base of skull erosion and often extends into the sphenoid sinus. Rapid shrinkage of this invasive tumor following dopamine agonist therapy has been postulated to cause unplugging of the eroded area, leading to cerebrospinal fluid leakage.

Normocalcemia but still elevated parathyroid hormone levels after parathyroidectomy

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 6, Issue 8, Page 1577-1581, August 2018., 2018
Even when laboratory results at first match with clinical assessment, assay interference should still be on a clinician's mind when later results no longer fit with the patient. Key Clinical Message Even when laboratory results at first match with clinical assessment, assay interference should still be on a clinician's mind when later results no longer

Emergence of Pituitary Adenoma in a Child during Surveillance: Clinical Challenges and the Family Members’ View in an AIP Mutation‐Positive Family

open access: yesInternational Journal of Endocrinology, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Introduction. Germline aryl hydrocarbon receptor‐interacting protein (AIP) mutations are responsible for 15–30% of familial isolated pituitary adenomas (FIPAs). We report a FIPA kindred with a heterozygous deletion in AIP, aiming to highlight the indications and benefits of genetic screening, variability in clinical presentations, and management ...

Stress‐Induced Hyperprolactinemia: Pathophysiology and Clinical Approach

open access: yesObstetrics and Gynecology International, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
While prolactin is most well known for its role in lactation and suppression of reproduction, its physiological functions are quite diverse. There are many etiologies of hyperprolactinemia, including physiologic as well as pathologic causes. Physiologic causes include pregnancy, lactation, sleep‐associated, nipple stimulation and sexual orgasm, chest ...

Evaluation of Clinical Features of Female Patients with Macroprolactinemia

open access: yesEndocrinology Research and Practice, 2011
Aim: Macroprolactin is a high-molecular-weight form of prolactin. It has been suggested that macroprolactin has no clinical importance because of its decreased or limited bioactivity. Although screening for macroprolactinemia is recommended especially in

Sexual Dysfunction and Hyperprolactinemia in Male Psychotic Inpatients: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesAdvances in Urology, Volume 2011, Issue 1, 2011., 2011
Introduction. Sexual dysfunction (SD) and hyperprolactinemia are frequently reported in patients with psychotic disorders and have the potential for severe complications but investigations in males are particularly scarce. The primary aims were to determine the prevalence of SD and hyperprolactinemia in male patients and to investigate whether ...

The Impact of Metformin on Plasma Prolactin Levels in Antipsychotics‐Treated Men With Hyperprolactinemia and Early‐Onset Androgenic Alopecia

open access: yesClinical Endocrinology, Volume 103, Issue 4, Page 513-522, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Objective Metformin decreases elevated levels of pituitary hormones. Little is known about the association between the reproductive axis and hormonal effects of this drug. The purpose of our study was to investigate whether activity of the hypothalamic‐pituitary‐gonadal axis determines metformin action on prolactin levels in men with prolactin
