Advancing Treatment of Degenerative Eye Diseases at the Nanoscale. [PDF]
Nanotherapeutics possess the potential to overcome longstanding bottlenecks in treating degenerative ophthalmic diseases. With a highly tunable surface chemistry, nanotechnology platforms can be customized to navigate specific anatomical barriers in the eye and target pathways of diseases.

Macular Corneal Dystrophy: An Updated Review
Macular Corneal Dystrophy is an autosomal recessive form of corneal dystrophy due to a mutation in CHST6 gene, which results in abnormal proteoglycan synthesis. There is accumulation of abnormal glycosaminoglycans in the corneal stroma and endothelium. The deposition results in progressive loss of corneal transparency and visual acuity.

Post-deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty ectasia in a case of macular corneal dystrophy
A 30-year-old female presented with diminution of vision in the right eye for 2 months. She was a known case of macular corneal dystrophy and had undergone OD deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty 2 years back. The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 6/

Biomaterials used for tissue engineering of barrier-forming cell monolayers in the eye
Cell monolayers that form a barrier between two structures play an important role for the maintenance of tissue functionality. In the anterior portion of the eye, the corneal endothelium forms a barrier that controls fluid exchange between the aqueous ...

Atypical presentation of macular corneal dystrophy
A 65-year old male patient presented to our ophthalmology OPD for regular check up. On examination visual acuity of the right eye was 6/24 improving to 6/12p with pinhole and left eye was 6/18 improving with pinhole 6/9. On examination of anterior segment both eyes cornea showed multiple white round deposits at deep posterior stroma and Descemet ...

Infectious Keratitis: An Update on Role of Epigenetics
Epigenetic mechanisms modulate gene expression and function without altering the base sequence of DNA. These reversible, heritable, and environment-influenced mechanisms generate various cell types during development and orchestrate the cellular ...

Corneal transplantation: Restoring sight to the blind
Abstract Corneal blindness is one of the leading causes of vision loss worldwide. Transplantation of the cornea can restore vision and make blind patients see again. Corneal transplant surgery has undergone major evolution in recent decades with the advent of minimally invasive lamellar surgical approaches such as DMEK and DALK.
