The Metamorphosis of Mg(SO3CF3)2‐based Electrolytes for Rechargeable Magnesium Batteries

open access: yesChemElectroChem
Cost‐effective, non‐corrosive and non‐nucleophilic Mg(SO3CF3)‐based electrolytes with high anodization stability are promising candidates for realizing high‐performance rechargeable magnesium batteries (RMBs). Since the 1990s, the community has developed

Dynamic recrystallization mechanism of high-strength Mg-Gd-Y-Zn-Mn alloy by hot compression deformation

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
The Mg-8Gd-3.5Y-1.5Zn-0.8Mn (wt%) alloy was designed and prepared to investigate the synergistic dynamic recrystallization (DRX) mechanism at high temperature and low strain rate.

Effects of layer thickness ratio on the bendability of Mg-Al-Zn/Mg-Gd laminated composite sheet

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2022
Despite the laminated composite sheets of dissimilar magnesium (Mg) alloys have attracted great attention due to their excellent comprehensive mechanical properties as compared to the sheets of individual alloys, how the structural parameters, especially

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Microstructures and mechanical properties of titanium-reinforced magnesium matrix composites: Review and perspective

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys, 2022
Currently, many gratifying signs of progress have been made in magnesium (Mg) matrix composites (MMCs) by virtue of their high mechanical properties both at room and elevated temperatures.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Preparation of functional coating on magnesium alloy with hydrophilic polymers and bioactive peptides for improved corrosion resistance and biocompatibility

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys, 2022
Biodegradable magnesium alloy stents (MAS) have great potential in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. However, too fast degradation and the poor biocompatibility are still two key problems for the clinical utility of MAS.
