Magnetic plasma confinement

Uspekhi Fizicheskih Nauk, 1983
A review is given of the present state of research into the physics of quasistationary confinement of hightemperature plasmas in magnetic fields. Both closed (toroidal) and open magnetic traps are considered. A major part of the review is devoted to the physics of plasma confinement in tokamaks.

Magnetic Confinement Fusion

Science, 1990
Fusion plasmas with reactorlike temperatures have been confined in magnetic-field configurations of the tokamak type. The measured rate of heat leakage from these plasmas is sufficiently small to be compatible with the requirements of a full-sized fusion power reactor.

Magnetic-confinement fusion

Nature Physics, 2016
Our modern society requires environmentally friendly solutions for energy production. Energy can be released not only from the fission of heavy nuclei but also from the fusion of light nuclei. Nuclear fusion is an important option for a clean and safe solution for our long-term energy needs.

Magnetic Confinement of Cosmic Clouds

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1988
The role of the magnetic field in the confinement or compression of interstellar gas clouds is reconsidered. The virial theorem for an isolated magnetized cloud in the presence of distant magnetic sources is reformulated in terms of moments of the internal and external currents, and an equilibrium condition is derived.

Magnetic freezing of confined water

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2010
We report results from molecular dynamic simulations of the freezing transition of liquid water in the nanoscale hydrophobic confinement under the influence of a homogeneous external magnetic field of 10 T along the direction perpendicular to the parallel plates.

Magnetic Domain Confinement by Anisotropy Modulation

Physical Review Letters, 2002
The spin configuration in a magnet is in general a "natural" consequence of both the intrinsic properties of the material and the sample dimensions. We demonstrate that this limitation can be overcome in a homogeneous ferromagnetic film by engineering an anisotropy contrast. Substrates with laterally modulated single-crystal and polycrystalline surface

ELECTRIC‐MAGNETIC CONFINEMENT

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1975
The theoretical plasma confinement times for an electromagnetic trap, which is an electrostatically plugged magnetic cusp device, are calculated. The plasma may be produced by electron beam injection or by other methods. Electron losses along field lines are inhibited by negative electrodes (cathodes) placed at the cusp openings.

Magnetically Confined Plasmas

Physical Review, 1958
The propagation of high-velocity shock waves in an axial maganetic field generated by single-turn coils connected in parallel to a condenser bank is investigated. Time-resolved photographs show that the plasma behind the shock front is driven away from the tube walls by the maganetic pressure, This compression heats the ionized gas and maintains a high

Nuclear magnetic resonance of confined MBBA

Magnetic Resonance Imaging, 1996
Confinement of liquid crystals in small pores changes their thermodynamic, structural, and dynamical properties. In this study we are concerned with solid, liquid crystalline, and isotropic liquid phase behaviour of the nematogenic compound MBBA confined in small pores of variable diameters.
