Magnetic Confinement of Cosmic Clouds
Astrophysics and Space Science, 1988The role of the magnetic field in the confinement or compression of interstellar gas clouds is reconsidered. The virial theorem for an isolated magnetized cloud in the presence of distant magnetic sources is reformulated in terms of moments of the internal and external currents, and an equilibrium condition is derived.

Magnetic freezing of confined water
The Journal of Chemical Physics, 2010We report results from molecular dynamic simulations of the freezing transition of liquid water in the nanoscale hydrophobic confinement under the influence of a homogeneous external magnetic field of 10 T along the direction perpendicular to the parallel plates.

Fusion plasmas with reactorlike temperatures have been confined in magnetic-field configurations of the tokamak type. The measured rate of heat leakage from these plasmas is sufficiently small to be compatible with the requirements of a full-sized fusion power reactor.

On a Magnetically Confined Plasma with Infinite Charge
SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 2014We consider a one-species plasma moving in an infinite cylinder, in which it is confined by means of a magnetic field diverging on the walls of the cylinder. It is assumed that initially the particles have bounded velocities and are distributed according to a density which is bounded, without any decreasing at infinity.

Magnetic Domain Confinement by Anisotropy Modulation
Physical Review Letters, 2002The spin configuration in a magnet is in general a "natural" consequence of both the intrinsic properties of the material and the sample dimensions. We demonstrate that this limitation can be overcome in a homogeneous ferromagnetic film by engineering an anisotropy contrast. Substrates with laterally modulated single-crystal and polycrystalline surface

We discuss advantages of surface confinement such as plasma stability, direct injection of ion beams, electrostatic confinement, negligible synchrotron loss, and ''geometric mirror.'' Preliminary experimental results are presented. (AIP)

A review is given of the present state of research into the physics of quasistationary confinement of hightemperature plasmas in magnetic fields. Both closed (toroidal) and open magnetic traps are considered. A major part of the review is devoted to the physics of plasma confinement in tokamaks.
