Numerical simulations of magnetically confined plasmas

Journal of Instrumentation, 2018
Since 2012, the INFN ion source group has been undertaking an intense activity on numerical modelling of magnetically confined plasmas, presently carried out in the framework of the PANDORA project. The aim is the development of a predictive tool for the design of Electron Cyclotron Resonance (ECR) Ion Sources or Traps and ECR-based Charge Breeders ...

Magnetic electrostatic plasma confinement

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1994
Electrostatic plasma confinement and magnetic electrostatic plasma confinement (MEPC) have been studied for four decades. The multiple potential well hypothesis, postulated to explain high neutron yields from Hirsch's colliding beam experiment (1968), has been supported by several pieces of evidence, but results were inconclusive. Magnetic shielding of

Cyclotron Radiation from Magnetically Confined Plasmas

The Physics of Fluids, 1959
The cyclotron emission from a hot, completely ionized, magnetically confined plasma has been estimated by computing the absorption of an incident plane wave. The harmonics of the fundamental cyclotron frequency, which are emitted perpendicular to the magnetic field direction, were summed over and also treated individually. Because of the Doppler effect

Baryon magnetic moments with confined quarks

Physical Review D, 1990
Within a rather general framework for confined quarks in a baryon, we derive an approximate expression for the effective quark masses and quark magnetic moments. Use of the additive quark model with the spin-flavor SU(6) wave functions may be justified for the relativistic quarks and lead to a good agreement between theory and experiment for the baryon

Computer Modelling of Magnetically Confined Plasmas

2009
Magnetic plasma confinement research poses multifaceted requirements for computational modelling. The determination of plasma equilibria, the prediction of their global stability, the physics of plasma heating, the estimation of the energy losses out of the plasma and the interaction of the energetic plasma with the walls require all support by ...
