Longitudinal spatial characterisation of optical fibre erbium distributed feedback laser under the motion of steady magnetic field

open access: yes, 2014
The spatial sensitivity of an erbium doped optical fibre distributed feedback (DFB) laser to an external magnetic field is reported. Intrinsic birefringence of the laser cavity allows lasing in two orthogonal modes.

Influence of magnetic fluids’ cohesion force and squeeze dynamic effect on the lubrication performance of journal bearing

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2017
Using the magnetic fluids containing polymer additives as the lubricant with couple stress, this article first develops the lubrication model of the journal bearing considering the couple interaction between its squeeze dynamic effect and its rotating ...

Research on Spatial Magnetic Field Distribution of Magnetic Fluids Based on Microstructure [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials (Basel)
This study focuses on the spatial magnetic field distribution of magnetic fluids, an extraordinary class of fluids composed of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs), employing the Monte Carlo method to simulate the microstructure of magnetic fluids under an ...

Experiments on Osmosis with Magnetic Fluid [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1971
Experiments on a ferromagnetic colloidal fluid at equilibrium showed equality between magnetic and osmotic force; this result identifies solute pressure against the free surface as the cause of the negative solvent pressure. Except for water of hydration, there is no other osmotic interaction between solute and solvent.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

The Dielectric Breakdown of Magnetic Fluids

open access: yes, 2010
The development of dielectric breakdown and the DC dielectric breakdown voltage of magnetic fluids based on inhibited transformer oil ITO 100 were investigated in parallel orientations of external magnetic field.

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

Non-Contact Monitoring on the Flow Status inside a Pulsating Heat Pipe

open access: yesSensors, 2020
The paper presents a concept of thermal-to-electrical energy conversion by using the oscillatory motion of magnetic fluid slugs which has potential to be applied in the field of sensors. A pulsating heat pipe (PHP) is introduced to produce vapor-magnetic

Guiding AlphaFold to predict how Munc13‐1 opens Syntaxin‐1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The syntaxin‐1 Habc‐domain (orange), linker (pink) and SNARE motif (yellow) form a closed conformation that binds to Munc18‐1 (violet) and is opened by the Munc13‐1 MUN domain (cyan) to form the SNARE complex that triggers neurotransmitter release.

The physical properties of magnetic inks [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
The magnetic particle inspection (MPI) method is a widely used non destructive testing (NDT) technique for ferrous structures. Magnetic inks used in MPI are suspensions of fine ferro/ferrimagnetic particles which, when applied to a magnetized test ...
