The detection of gear noise computed by integrating the Fourier and Wavelet methods [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper presents a new gearbox noise detection algorithm based on analyzing specific points of vibration signals using the Wavelet Transform. The proposed algorithm is compared with a previouslydeveloped algorithm associated with the Fourier ...

Timing Is Everything: How Subtle Timing Changes in MRI Echo Planar Imaging Can Significantly Alter Mechanical Vibrations and Sound Level

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, Volume 95, Issue 6, Page 3116-3130, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose Echo‐Planar Imaging (EPI) is central to fMRI, diffusion MRI, and many dynamic clinical applications, yet rapid gradient switching induces strong mechanical vibrations, generates acoustic noise, and contributes to ghosting artifacts—effects that intensify at ultra‐high fields.

Identification and proposed control of helicopter transmission noise at the source [PDF]

open access: yes
Helicopter cabin interiors require noise treatment which is expensive and adds weight. The gears inside the main power transmission are major sources of cabin noise.

Field‐Data‐Based Wind Turbine Reliability Modelling: Quantifying Effects of Operating Age, Design and Technological Development

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 29, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT As wind energy continues to expand, ensuring the reliability of wind turbines is critical for optimising operational efficiency and minimising downtime. Based on maintenance data from over 1,000 onshore and offshore wind turbines covering more than 4200 operating years, this study presents an analysis of wind turbine failure behaviour over ...

Low-noise, high-strength, spiral-bevel gears for helicopter transmissions [PDF]

open access: yes
Improvements in spiral-bevel gear design were investigated to support the Army/NASA Advanced Rotorcraft Transmission program. Program objectives were to reduce weight by 25 percent, reduce noise by 10 dB, and increase life to 5000 hr mean-time-between ...

Unraveling Chronic Pain: From Mechanisms and Risks to Diagnosis and Treatment

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 4, April 2026.
Chronic pain arises through distinct molecular pathways categorized into nociceptive, neuropathic, and nociplastic types. Nociceptive pain begins with TRP channel activation in peripheral nociceptors, signaling via Aδ‐ and C‐fibers through the spinal dorsal horn and spinothalamic tracts to the brain, regulated by descending inhibition and involving ...

Weibull‐Neural Network Framework for Wind Turbine Lifetime Monitoring and Disturbance Identification

open access: yesWind Energy, Volume 29, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Wind turbines are vital for sustainable energy, yet their reliability under diverse operational and environmental conditions remains a challenge, often leading to costly failures. This study presents a novel Weibull‐Neural Network Framework to enhance wind turbine lifetime monitoring by estimating reliability (R(t)) and mean residual life (MRL)

Alumina–Zirconia Composite Filaments for 3D‐Printed Scaffolds With Bioglass Infiltration for Medical Applications

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology, Volume 23, Issue 2, April 2026.
This study demonstrates the innovative development of alumina–zirconia composite scaffolds produced by fused filament fabrication (FFF) and infiltrated with bioglass via the sol–gel method. The combination yielded highly porous three‐dimensional architectures (500 µm–1 mm), suitable for nutrient diffusion, vascularization, and cell colonization.
