NMR/MRI Techniques to Characterize Alginate-Based Gel Rafts for the Treatment of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

open access: yesGels
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is associated with symptoms such as heartburn, resulting from gastric content reflux. Alginate-based raft-forming gel formulations represent a non-pharmacological strategy for GERD management by forming a floating ...

Integration of Serum Neurofilament Light Chain and Cortical Dysfunction Improves Diagnostic Accuracy in ALS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To determine whether integration of serum neurofilament light chain (NfL) and cortical dysfunction improves diagnostic accuracy in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) when applied alongside the Gold Coast criteria (GCC). Methods In this prospective study, 148 participants with suspected ALS were recruited (101 ALS and 47 with ALS ...

Effects of Add‐On Icosapent Ethyl With Standard Treatment on Functional Outcomes and Inflammatory Biomarkers in Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ischemic stroke, a major cause of mortality and long‐term disability, results from the abrupt cessation of cerebral blood flow due to vascular occlusion or rupture. Icosapent Ethyl (EPA‐EE), approved for hypertriglyceridemia, has anti‐inflammatory and antithrombotic properties that may lessen ischemic damage.

The anisotropic properties of magnetically ordered gel

open access: yesScience and Technology of Advanced Materials, 2006
The preparation of gels under strong magnetic fields causes the molecular ordering of the gels. The relationships between the magnetic ordering and various physical properties of agarose gel at various concentrations were investigated. It was found that the ordering of the gel molecules is related to the phase transition temperature.

FastNano Liquid: An Automated Platform for Small‐Angle X‐ray Scattering‐Based Materials Discovery

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present FastNano Liquid, an automated small‐ and wide‐angle X‐ray scattering platform for the combined synthesis and characterization of (nano)materials. The platform is coupled to varied reactor workflows for both in situ studies of reaction kinetics and ex situ screening of synthesis conditions to support machine learning‐guided exploration ...

Observation of a gel of quantum vortices in a superconductor at very low magnetic fields

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2020
A gel consists of a network of particles or molecules formed for example using the sol-gel process, by which a solution transforms into a porous solid.

3D‐Printed Titanium Gyroid Scaffold Structure Integrated With Tough Hybrid Materials for Cartilage Replacement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes a potential device design for joint cartilage replacement. Silica‐polytetrahydrofuran (SiO2‐PolyTHF) hybrids with customizable mechanical properties were developed to mimic the characteristics of a natural meniscus. These were synthesized through a two‐pot sol–gel hybrid process.
