Ni thickness influence on magnetic properties (Co/Ni/Co/Pt) multilayers with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy

open access: yes, 2017
We present a study of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in [Co/Ni(t)/Co/Pt]×8 multilayers for use as free layers in magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJ) and spin valves. The thickness t of the Ni sub-layer was varied and the resulting magnetic properties were

Composition‐Tuned Enhancement of the Anomalous Nernst Effect in FeCo–Pt Thin Films on Rigid and Flexible Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Disordered (Fe50Co50)1−xPtx thin films exhibit a pronounced anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) with a strong composition dependence on both rigid and flexible substrates. The transverse thermoelectric response peaks near 22.5 at.% Pt, accompanied by enhanced αxy/σxy scaling, thermal transport, and ANE sensitivity.

Enhanced Hall effect in Co/Pd multilayered nanodomes with perpendicular anisotropy

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2017
In this work, multilayers of Co/Pd with out of plane anisotropy have been deposited on the bottom of porous alumina membranes, forming nanodomes films with 100 and 200 nm diameter.

Hydrogen Absorption in Metal Thin Films and Heterostructures Investigated in Situ with Neutron and X-ray Scattering

open access: yesMetals, 2016
Due to hydrogen possessing a relatively large neutron scattering length, hydrogen absorption and desorption behaviors in metal thin films can straightforwardly be investigated by neutron reflectometry. However, to further elucidate the chemical structure

An Experimental High‐Throughput Approach for the Screening of Hard Magnet Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An entire workflow for the high‐throughput characterization and analysis of compositionally graded magnetic films is presented. Characterization protocols, data management tools and data analysis approaches are illustrated with test case Sm(Fe, V)12 based films.

Designing Polymer Nanocomposites for X‐Ray Shielding: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Scalable Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights advances in lightweight, lead‐free polymer nanocomposites for diagnostic X‐ray shielding. By linking filler chemistry, dispersion, architecture, and photon interaction mechanisms, it establishes structure–performance relationships guiding material design.

Dynamic magnetic properties of Ni81Fe19/Al2O3 multilayers

open access: yes, 2005
Discontinuous magnetic metal-insulator multilayers of Ni81Fe19 and Al2O3 were prepd. by sequential magnetron sputtering in an UHV chamber. Ni81Fe19 layers of nominal thickness 8 Å form clusters of quite uniform size having an av. diam. of ∌24 Å.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.
