The ultrasonic velocity in a magnetic fluid (MF) on a base of water is measured under different temperatures, frequencies and magnetic fields. Two Kinds of ultrasonic correlation systems are employed. The maximum velocity is observed at 38°C without distinction of frequency.

Nondestructive Evaluation of Magnetic Disk Heads Using a Photoacoustic Microscope
Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1997Nondestructive evaluation of magnetic disk heads is achieved using a photoacoustic microscope (PAM). A qualitative evaluation for gap or an isolation area of the heads is performed with photoacoustic amplitude and phase images. Resolution achieved is about 2 micrometer. A crack in a ferrite region and a bubble in a glass filler is observed

Detection of ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) by photothermal beam deflection has been used to study the spatial inhomogeneity of magnetic properties. The technique has been applied to measure the depth dependence of FMR in layered recorder tapes and to determine the lateral variation of the demagnetizing field in metal–glass ribbons.
