Novel Functional Materials via 3D Printing by Vat Photopolymerization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This Perspective systematically analyzes strategies for incorporating functionalities into 3D‐printed materials via Vat Photopolymerization (VP). It explores the spectrum of achievable functionalities in recently reported novel materials—such as conductive, energy‐storing, biodegradable, stimuli‐responsive, self‐healing, shape‐memory, biomaterials, and

Electromagnetic Meissner effect launcher [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
An electromagnetic projectile launcher provides acceleration of a superconducting projectile through the diamagnetic repulsion of the superconducting projectile. A superconducting layer is provided aft of the projectile, either directly on the projectile

MagPiezo: A Magnetogenetic Platform for Remote Activation of Endogenous Piezo1 Channels in Endothelial Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
MagPiezo enables wireless activation of endogenous Piezo1 channels without genetic modification using 19 nm magnetic nanoparticles and low‐intensity magnetic fields. It generates torque forces at the piconewton scale to trigger mechanotransduction in endothelial cells, standing as a novel platform to interrogate and manipulate Piezo1 activity in vitro.

Electromagnetic drag forces between HTS magnet and tube infrastructure for hyperloop

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Maglevs are typically accelerated using electromagnetic propulsion and levitation. High-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets along with electrodynamic suspension (EDS) and linear synchronous motors are one of the best options for Hyperloop. However,

Specialized turbomolecular pumping stage for RF ion thrusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper proposes the application of a highly specialized Turbomolecular Vacuum Pump (TMP) device as a subsystem for electrostatic RF ion thrusters, using D. Fearn’s Dual-Stage 4-Grid design as a cutting-edge example. The TMP turbine’s rotor impulse is

Spin Defects in Hexagonal Boron Nitride as 2D Strain Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that boron‐vacancy (VB${\rm V}_{\rm B}$) centers in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) enable quantitative strain sensing with sub‐micrometer resolution. Using this approach under continuously tunable in‐plane stress, we precisely quantify strain‐induced shifts of the E2g${\rm E}_{2{\rm g}}$ Raman mode in multilayer hBN, establishing VB${\rm ...

Design and Analysis of Combined Vibration Absorbers for Ship Propulsion Shaft Systems

open access: yesActuators
The vibration of a ship’s propulsion shaft system directly affects the ship’s lifespan, and many studies have designed vibration absorbers only for one of the natural frequencies of a ship’s propulsion shaft system without considering the influence of ...
