Magnetic-reconnection-driven Turbulence and Turbulent Reconnection Acceleration

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
This paper employs an MHD-PIC method to perform numerical simulations of magnetic-reconnection-driven turbulence and turbulent reconnection acceleration of particles.

The reversibility of magnetic reconnection [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of Plasmas, 2021
The reversibility of the transfer of energy from the magnetic field to the surrounding plasma during magnetic reconnection is examined. Trajectories of test particles in an analytic field model demonstrate that irreversibility is associated with separatrix crossings and passages through regions of weaker magnetic field.

Perspectives on magnetic reconnection. [PDF]

open access: yesProc Math Phys Eng Sci, 2016
Magnetic reconnection is a topological rearrangement of magnetic field that occurs on time scales much faster than the global magnetic diffusion time. Since the field lines break on microscopic scales but energy is stored and the field is driven on macroscopic scales, reconnection is an inherently multi-scale process that often involves both ...

Forced Magnetic Reconnection [PDF]

open access: yesPhysica Scripta, 1982
By studying a simple model problem, the time evolution of magnetic field islands which are induced by perturbing the boundary surrounding an incompressible plasma with a resonant surface inside is examined. The reconnection and island formation process for sufficiently small boundary perturbations occurs on the tearing mode time scale defined by Furth,

Kinematics of relativistic magnetic reconnection [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 1994
We study the relativistic generalizations of two-dimensional Sweet-Parker and Petschek reconnection models in the context of a relativistic pair plasma. The solutions show that if the outflow velocity from the resistive region approaches the relativistic Alfven speed, the outflow density increase from Lorentz contraction allows a much faster inflow and

MAVEN Observations of the Interloop Magnetic Reconnections at Mars

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Magnetic reconnection between neighboring magnetic field loops, the so-called interloop reconnection, is a common process to drive flares in the solar atmosphere.

Magnetic Reconnection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We review the fundamental physics of magnetic reconnection in laboratory and space plasmas, by discussing results from theory, numerical simulations, observations from space satellites, and the recent results from laboratory plasma experiments. After a brief review of the well-known early work, we discuss representative recent experimental and ...

Bursty magnetic reconnection at Saturn's magnetopause [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
[1] We infer the evolution of magnetopause reconnection from simultaneous in situ magnetopause crossings and auroral observations by Cassini on 19 July 2008.

Magnetopause reconnection and interlinked flux tubes [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Geophysicae, 2013
Magnetic reconnection can be a continuous or a transient process. Global magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) simulations are important tools to understand the relevant magnetic reconnection mechanisms and the resulting magnetic structures.

Magnetic reconnection in the Jovian tail : X-line evolution and consequent plasma sheet structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Magnetic reconnection in planetary magnetospheres plays important roles in energy and mass transfer in the steady state, and also possibly in transient large-scale disturbances.
