High-efficiency magnetic refrigeration using holmium [PDF]
AbstractMagnetic refrigeration (MR) is a method of cooling matter using a magnetic field. Traditionally, it has been studied for use in refrigeration near room temperature; however, recently MR research has also focused on a target temperature as low as 20 K for hydrogen liquefaction.

An optimized magnet for magnetic refrigeration [PDF]
A magnet designed for use in a magnetic refrigeration device is presented. The magnet is designed by applying two general schemes for improving a magnet design to a concentric Halbach cylinder magnet design and dimensioning and segmenting this design in an optimum way followed by the construction of the actual magnet.

Magnetocaloric effect and critical behavior in Fe-La-Zr rapidly quenched ribbons
Fe90-xLaxZr10 (x = 1 and 2) rapidly quenched ribbons with thickness of about 15 μm were prepared by the melt-spinning method. X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the structure of the ribbons is mostly amorphous.

Achievement of a table-like magnetocaloric effect in the dual-phase ErZn2/ErZn composite
Dual-phase ErZn2/ErZn composite was obtained by induction-melting method. The composite crystallizes in the phases of ErZn2 and ErZn with the weight ratio of 53.8:46.2. The composite undergoes two successive magnetic phase transitions.

Magnetocaloric Effect Caused by Paramagnetic Austenite–Ferromagnetic Martensite Phase Transformation [PDF]
In the present work, the magnetization of Ni50Mn17.5Ga25Cu7.5 alloy undergoing the first-order phase transition from paramagnetic austenite to ferromagnetic martensite was measured to evaluate the magnetic-field-induced entropy change (MFIEC) and ...
