The influence of Hall currents, plasma viscosity and electron inertia on magnetic reconnection solutions

open access: yes, 2007
This thesis examines magnetic reconnection in the solar corona. Magnetic reconnection is the only mechanism which allows the magnetic topology of magnetized plasmas to be changed. Many of the dynamic processes in the Sun's atmosphere are believed to be

An Improved IPMSM Discrete-Time Nonlinear Model for Hardware-in-the-Loop Test Systems

open access: yesMachines
Interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) exhibit significant nonlinear electromagnetic behaviour due to the effects of saturation, cross-coupling, spatial harmonics, temperature, and iron losses.

Strain Engineering of Magnetoresistance and Magnetic Anisotropy in CrSBr

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Biaxial compressive strain significantly enhances magnetoresistance and critical saturation fields in thin flakes of the 2D magnet CrSBr, along all three crystallographic axes. First‐principles calculations link these effects to strain‐induced increases in exchange interactions and magnetic anisotropy.

Core Loss Effect Modeling and Compensation for Improved MTPA Control of PMSM Drive under High-Speed Conditions

open access: yesCES Transactions on Electrical Machines and Systems
For permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs), accurate machine model is critical for high performance maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control. However, as motor speed increases, the nonlinearity such as core loss effect will affect the accuracy of ...

Microscopic Insights into Magnetic Warping and Time‐Reversal Symmetry Breaking in Topological Surface States of Rare‐Earth‐Doped Bi2Te3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic doping of the topological insulator Bi2Te3 with erbium adatoms induces out‐of‐plane magnetism and breaks time‐reversal symmetry, opening a Dirac gap and driving a Fermi surface transition from hexagonal to star‐of‐David geometry. Microscopy, spectroscopy, and magnetic dichroism reveal atomically controlled magnetic interactions that tailor the

Ni thickness influence on magnetic properties (Co/Ni/Co/Pt) multilayers with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy

open access: yes, 2017
We present a study of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in [Co/Ni(t)/Co/Pt]×8 multilayers for use as free layers in magnetic tunnel junctions (MTJ) and spin valves. The thickness t of the Ni sub-layer was varied and the resulting magnetic properties were

Water Permeates and Plasticizes Amorphous Carbon Dots: Unraveling the Inner Accessibility of the Nanoparticles by Glass Transition Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The water permeability of amorphous carbon dots (CDs) is demonstrated by investigating their plasticization. Novel polyamide‐based and amorphous nanoparticles are synthesized by controlling their inner packing density. Water plasticization is evidenced by the decrease of the CDs glass transition temperature with increasing the hydration degree.

Fundamental magnetic properties of Greigite (Fe3S4)

open access: yes, 2009
Over the last twenty years, greigite (Fe3S4), an authigenic magnetic iron sulphide mineral, has been increasingly identified in sulphate-reducing marine and lacustrine sedimentary systems.
