Doughnut mode magneto-optical trap

Journal of the Optical Society of America B, 1997
We have developed a magneto-optical trap that is well suited for high-resolution spectroscopy. It uses a combination of doughnut mode (Laguerre–Gaussian TEM01) and TEM00 cooling beams rather than the usual TEM00 cooling beams. This configuration allows us to tailor the intensity distribution within the magneto-optical trap such that the atoms are ...

Magneto-optical trapping of Fermionic potassium atoms

Physical Review A, 1998
We have trapped ${}^{40}\mathrm{K}$ in a vapor-cell magneto-optical trap starting from a natural abundance sample. This rare, weakly radioactive atom is a fermion. The number of trapped atoms is approximately 8000, with a density of $\ensuremath{\sim}{10}^{8}$ atoms/${\mathrm{cm}}^{3}$.

Spectroscopy on a modulated magneto-optical trap

Optics Letters, 1998
We demonstrate a new type of high-resolution two-photon frequency modulation (FM) spectroscopy with cold atoms in a magneto-optical trap. Instead of modulating the probe as in ordinary FM spectroscopy, we modulate the trap itself by FM of the trapping beams.

A magneto-optical trap for radioactive atoms

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
This paper presents the recent results of the TrapRad/Francium collaboration whose final aim is the measurement of the Atomic Parity Non-Conservation effect (APNC) in Francium atoms stored in a Magneto – Optical Trap (MOT) built at the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro (LNL) of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN).

Trapping of Radioactive Atoms: the Legnaro Francium Magneto-Optical Trap

Physica Scripta, 2003
Experiments aimed at laser cooling and trapping of radioactive atoms are nowadays operational at several laboratories. They open up a bridge between atomic and nuclear physics, allowing new precise spectroscopic measurements and detailed analysis of nuclear decay processes.

Magneto-optical trap near a surface

Optics Communications, 1997
Abstract We address the problem of the realization of a magneto-optically cooled atom cloud near a dielectric surface. The influence of the surface on the magneto-optical trap is analyzed via numerical simulation of the trapping process. Experimental results show that a Cs magneto-optical trap can operate as close as 50 μm from the surface.
