A high current density DC magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) micropump
Lab on a Chip, 2005This paper describes the working principle of a DC magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) micropump that can be operated at high DC current densities (J) in 75-microm-deep microfluidic channels without introducing gas bubbles into the pumping channel. The main design feature for current generation is a micromachined frit-like structure that connects the pumping ...

A magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) microfluidic platform for cell switching
2005 3rd IEEE/EMBS Special Topic Conference on Microtechnology in Medicine and Biology, 2005We present for the first time the demonstration of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) micropump based microfluidic platform for cell switching. MHD micropumps were fabricated with a novel microfabrication process that can make vertical electrodes embedded inside microchannels to provide higher efficiency of pumping of the fluid.

Theoretical and experimental study of MHD (magnetohydrodynamic) micropump
Sensors and Actuators A: Physical, 2000This paper presents a novel micropump of which pumping mechanism is based upon magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) principles. MHD is the study of flow of electrically conducting liquids in electric and magnetic fields. Lorentz force is the pumping source of conductive, aqueous solutions in the MHD micropump.
