Sensing Behavior of Magnetorheological Elastomers

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2009
A magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) is comprised of ferromagnetic particles aligned in a polymer medium by exposure to a magnetic field. The structures of the magnetic particles within elastomers are very sensitive to the external stimulus of either mechanical force or magnetic field, which result in multiresponse behaviors in a MRE.

Damping Properties of Magnetorheological Elastomers

Advanced Materials Research, 2017
Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) are a kind of smart materials, which change the mechanical properties (viscoelastic characteristics) under the magnetic field action. In the paper the determination of damping properties (reactive force) of specimens made out of magnetorheological elastomers is presented.

Model of magnetorheological elastomers

Journal of Applied Physics, 1999
Magnetorheological elastomers consist of natural or synthetic rubber filled with micron-sized magnetizable particles. During curing of the elastomer, an applied magnetic field aligns the particles into chains. The shear modulus of the resulting cured material is sensitive to magnetic fields of several kOe magnitude.

STUDY OF UTILIZABLE MAGNETORHEOLOGICAL ELASTOMERS

Electrorheological Fluids and Magnetorheological Suspensions, 2007
This paper presents two kinds of magnetorheological elastomers (MREs). One is composed of appropriate silicon rubber, carbonyl iron particles and some other materials. It is cured under a strong magnetic field at a room temperature. Its shear modulus change from 0.34MPa at zero magnetic field to 3.34MPa at 1T magnetic field, the relative MR effect ...

Potential Applications of Magnetorheological Elastomers

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
Magnetorheological elastomer still becomes interested topics among researchers since the rheological properties can be controlled by applying external magnetic field by means of adjustable modulus of elasticity. In this paper, the current application of MRE and related patents will be discussed. Potential application of MRE focused on three main areas.

Magnetostrictive effect of magnetorheological elastomer

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2008
Abstract Magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) has been known for its magnetic field-dependent stiffness, but only a few works study its magnetostrictive property. The aim of this paper is to present results of studies on magnetostriction of the MRE consisting of carbonyl iron particles displaced in the matrix made of a silicone rubber.

A review on magnetorheological elastomers

Advances in Engineering Technology Research, 2023
Magnetorheological Elastomers (MREs) are a type of magnetorheological (MR) material, which is a combination of magnetic particles and a soft elastic matrix. As a new class of intelligent material, MREs possess controllability, reversibility, rapid response as well as stability under magnetic fields.

Modeling of magnetorheological elastomers

Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) are composite materials whose mechanical properties can rapidly and reversibly change with the application of a magnetic field. MREs are composed of a non-magnetic polymer matrix embedded with magnetic particles.

Modulus-tunable magnetorheological elastomer microcantilevers

Smart Materials and Structures, 2014
Modulus-tunable microcantilevers are fabricated from magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) consisting of polydimethylsiloxane and carbonyl iron particles by using a simple sandwich molding method. Depending on the presence or absence of an external magnetic field during curing, isotropic or anisotropic MRE cantilevers are obtained.

Magnetorheological Elastomers: Experimental and Modeling Aspects

Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) are active composite materials that deform under a magnetic field because they are made of a soft elastomer matrix filled with magnetizable micrometric particles. Along with short response times and low magnetic inputs, not only do MREs alter their viscoelastic properties and stiffness in response to external ...
