Morphology and magnetic properties of SmCo3/alpha-Fe nanocomposite magnets prepared via severe plastic deformation

open access: yes, 2014
We report bulk SmCo3/alpha-Fe nanocomposite magnets prepared via high energy ball milling and warm compaction. The evolution of structure and magnetic properties with soft phase fraction have been systematically studied.

Effect of Annealing, Stoichiometry, and Surface on Magnetism of (Pr,Dy)FeCoB Microparticles Ensemble

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2017
Magnetic properties of powder (Pr,Dy)FeCoB ferrimagnetic alloys and effects of annealing, surface states were analyzed. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Mössbauer spectra of powders indicate the effect of surface states on phase composition and ...

Development of human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 by yeast display

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human monoclonal antibodies against TARM1 are generated by yeast display‐guided selection. These antibodies bind to soluble and cell‐surface forms of TARM1. Also, these antibodies exhibit agonistic activity in the NFAT‐GFP reporter assay, indicating that TARM1 signaling can be functionally modulated by antibodies and suggesting TARM1 as a potential ...

Development of magnetic anchoring and guidance systems for minimally invasive surgery

open access: yesIndian Journal of Urology, 2010
Recent advances in urology have included natural orifice translumenal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) and laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS). These techniques seek to minimize morbidity by reducing the number of transabdominal port sites, but this ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

Two refrigerator magnets

open access: yes, 2008
Here is another new one on me! I never would have thought of Aesopic refrigerator magnets. These two are very nicely made. Notice the hyperbole in the GA text: the ant drags a banana to his nest!

The development of scientific reasoning of preschool children: Micro-analysis of mind–material–body integration

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Childhood Education, 2019
Background: This article argues that the emergence of scientific reasoning in the preschool years could be augmented by caregivers and preschool teachers through nurturing ‘Habits of Mind’ (HOM) and ‘Habits of Body’ (HOB) of young children.
