Guiding AlphaFold to predict how Munc13‐1 opens Syntaxin‐1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The syntaxin‐1 Habc‐domain (orange), linker (pink) and SNARE motif (yellow) form a closed conformation that binds to Munc18‐1 (violet) and is opened by the Munc13‐1 MUN domain (cyan) to form the SNARE complex that triggers neurotransmitter release.

Impact of flux jumps on high-precision powering of Nb$_3$Sn superconducting magnets

open access: yes, 2019
Nb$_3$Sn superconducting magnets represent a technology enabler for future high-energy particle accelerators. A possible impediment, though, comes from flux jumps that, so far, could not be avoided by design unlike for NbTi technology.

Spinal Cord Infarction Versus Idiopathic Transverse Myelitis: Clinical, Radiological, and Functional Insights From a Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Spinal cord infarction (SCI) is a rare but devastating myelopathy, characterized by a high disability rate and an unfavorable prognosis. It has often been underdiagnosed and misdiagnosed as idiopathic transverse myelitis (ITM). This study aimed to describe the clinical features, radiological biomarkers, treatments, and functional ...

Rare Earth Free Permanent Magnets

open access: yes, 2014
REFREEPERMAG is an EU-funded project to develop a new generation of novel materials without rare earths or platinum for high performance permanent magnets as a replacement of the existing ones mainly based on rare-earths.

Brainstem and Cerebellar Volume Loss and Associated Clinical Features in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) is a neurodegenerative ‘tauopathy’ with predominating pathology in the basal ganglia and midbrain. Caudal tau spread frequently implicates the cerebellum; however, the pattern of atrophy remains equivocal.

Micron precision calibration methods for alignment sensors in particle accelerators

open access: yes, 2009
Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, has, on each side of its four experiments, a set of three magnets, called low-beta magnets.

Diffusion Spectrum Imaging Maps Early Axonal Loss and a Unique Progressive Signal in Neuronal Intranuclear Inclusion Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To delineate specific in vivo white matter pathology in neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease (NIID) using diffusion spectrum imaging (DSI) and define its clinical relevance. Methods DSI was performed on 42 NIID patients and 38 matched controls.

Abstract 2-D ELECTROMAGNETIC MODEL OF FAST-RAMPING

open access: yes, 2008
Fast-ramping superconducting (SC) accelerator magnets are the subject of R&D efforts by magnet designers at various laboratories. They require modifications of magnet design tools such as the ROXIE program at CERN, i.e.

Nb3Sn Accelerator Magnets: The Early Days (1960s–1980s)

open access: yes, 2019
Since Nb3Sn became available in the form of relatively long tapes in the early 1960s, it was considered for high-field magnets thanks to its high upper critical magnetic field and critical temperature.

Detection of Internal Metal Loss in Steel Pipes and Storage Tanks via Magnetic-Based Fiber Optic Sensor

open access: yesSensors, 2018
A monitoring solution was developed for detection of material loss in metals such as carbon steel using the force generated by permanent magnets in addition to the optical strain sensing technology.
