RECENT STRONG EARTHQUAKES IN CENTRAL ASIA: REGULAR TECTONOPHYSICAL FEATURES OF LOCATIONS IN THE STRUCTURE AND GEODYNAMICS OF THE LITHOSPHERE. PART 1. MAIN GEODYNAMIC FACTORS PREDETERMINING LOCATIONS OF STRONG EARTHQUAKES IN THE STRUCTURE OF THE LITHOSPHER

open access: yesГеодинамика и тектонофизика, 2015
Studying locations of strong earthquakes (М≥8) in space and time in Central Asia has been among top prob-lems for many years and still remains challenging for international research teams.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

End-to-End Magnitude Least Squares Binaural Rendering for Equatorial Microphone Arrays [Elektronisk resurs]

open access: yes, 2023
We recently presented an end-to-end magnitude least squares (eMagLS) binaural rendering method for spherical microphone array (SMA) signals that integrates a comprehensive array model into a magnitude least squares objective to minimize reproduction ...

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Earthquake Swarm Activity in the Tokara Islands (2025): Statistical Analysis Indicates Low Probability of Major Seismic Event

open access: yesGeoHazards
The Tokara Islands, a volcanic archipelago located south of Japan’s main islands, experienced earthquake swarm activity in 2025. Public concern has emerged regarding the potential triggering of the anticipated Nankai Trough earthquake, which the Japan ...

Optimal magnitude and probability of fines [PDF]

open access: yes
The economic literature on crime and punishment focuses on the trade-off between probability and severity of punishment, and suggests that detection probability and fines are substitutes.

Magnitude and Causes of Visual Impairment and Blindness Among Children Attending Paediatric Eye Clinic at Muhimbili National Hospital, 2010 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The number of blind years resulting from blindness in children is alarmingly high. Blindness in children can have a significant impact on their performance at school as well as their social interaction and future employment as visually impaired children ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...
