Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Homogenization of the moment magnitude estimates available in the French datasets and implications on ground motion model variability

open access: yes, 2022
Probabilistic seismic hazard assessment requires earthquake events characterized in terms of the moment magnitude (MW) scale both in the earthquake catalogues and in the ground-motion databases. These magnitudes can be either estimated directly after an inversion of the moment tensor or can be deduced from other magnitude scales using a scale ...

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Influence of Scan Strategies in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion on Solidification, Microstructure, and High‐Temperature Compressive Properties of γ′‐Strengthened Inconel 738LC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Experiments and thermophysical simulations were conducted to investigate the electron beam powder bed fusion electron beam (PBF‐EB/M) process for the γ′‐strengthened nickel‐based superalloy Inconel 738LC. The results demonstrate the impact of process‐induced microstructural variations on high‐temperature mechanical behavior, providing a basis for ...

Additive Manufacturing of Alumina‐Reinforced Elastomers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Vat‐photopolymerized elastomers reinforced with platelet‐shaped alumina exhibited preferential orientation, reduced porosity, and significantly enhanced mechanical performance. A 3 wt% platelet loading increased tensile strength from 12.4 to 45.7 MPa, highlighting the critical role of filler morphology in elastomeric VPP composites.

The Influence of Field‐Assisted Sintering Technology (FAST) Temperature and Cooling Rate on the Microstructural Evolution in Gamma‐Titanium Aluminide Alloy GE4822

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the Field Assisted Sintering Technology (FAST) parameters, dwell temperature and cooling rate, significantly influences the microstructural evolution in titanium aluminide GE4822. Significant γ‐lamellar colonies develop only upon cooling through the α‐transus.

Homogeneous determination of maximum magnitude

open access: yes, 2010
This deliverable represents the result of the activities performed by a working group at INGV. The main object of the Task 3.5 is defined in the Description of Work. This task will produce a homogeneous assessment (possibly multiple models) of the distribution of the expected Maximum Magnitude for earthquakes expected in various tectonic provinces of ...

Investigating the Effect of Inclination Angle and the Influence of Scan Parameters on the Appearance and Thermal and Mechanical Properties of Filigree Tension Rods of LPBF‐Manufactured NiTi Shape‐Memory Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article investigates the dependence of the properties on the manufacturing orientation in the form of the inclination angle to the build plate of LPBF‐fabricated NiTi rods with a diameter of 150–220 µm. Metallographic, chemical, thermal, and mechanical characterization show behavior under identical manufacturing conditions that ranges from ...
