Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Some Models of Linguistic Understanding

open access: yesThe Baltic International Yearbook of Cognition, Logic and Communication, 2010
I discuss the conjecture that understanding what is said in an utterance is to be modelled as knowing what is said in that utterance. My main aim is to present a number of alternative models, as a prophylactic against premature acceptance of the ...

AdS bulk locality from sharp CFT bounds

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
It is a long-standing conjecture that any CFT with a large central charge and a large gap ∆gap in the spectrum of higher-spin single-trace operators must be dual to a local effective field theory in AdS.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Mod p points on shimura varieties of parahoric level

open access: yesForum of Mathematics, Pi
We study the $\overline {\mathbb {F}}_{p}$ -points of the Kisin–Pappas integral models of Shimura varieties of Hodge type with parahoric level. We show that if the group is quasi-split, then every isogeny class contains the reduction of a CM point,

Fuglede's conjecture on cyclic groups of order $p^nq$

open access: yesDiscrete Analysis, 2017
Fuglede's conjecture on cyclic groups of order $p^nq$, Discrete Analysis 2017:12, 16 pp. A conjecture of Fuglede from 1974 states that a measurable set $E\subset \mathbb R^n$ of positive Lebesgue measure tiles $\mathbb R^n$ by translations if and only ...

Generalized Wintgen inequality for BI-SLANT submanifolds in conformal Sasakian space form with quarter-symmetric connection [PDF]

open access: yesArab Journal of Mathematical Sciences
Purpose – In 1979, P. Wintgen obtained a basic relationship between the extrinsic normal curvature the intrinsic Gauss curvature, and squared mean curvature of any surface in a Euclidean 4-space with the equality holding if and only if the curvature ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Integrated information structure collapses with anesthetic loss of conscious arousal in Drosophila melanogaster.

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2021
The physical basis of consciousness remains one of the most elusive concepts in current science. One influential conjecture is that consciousness is to do with some form of causality, measurable through information.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
