Evaluation of the Insect Resistance Efficacy of Transgenic Maize LD05 in China

open access: yesPlants
Transgenic insect-resistant maize can effectively control insect pests, which is of great significance to improve maize yield and quality. Transgenic maize LD05 is an insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant maize independently developed by Shandong ...

Targeting the ARRDC3–DRP1 Axis via hUMSC‐Derived Exosomal CRYAB for Neuroprotection in Cerebral Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Intranasally administered hUMSC‐derived exosomes modulate the CRYAB–ARRDC3–Drp1 axis, alleviating mitochondrial dysfunction and ferroptosis, enhancing neuronal survival, reducing oxidative stress, and promoting functional recovery in ischemia‐reperfusion injury, offering a promising therapeutic strategy for ischemic stroke.

Maize Prolonged Prophase 1 is essential for meiotic progression in pollen mother cells

open access: yesCrop Journal
Meiosis, a critical process for sexual reproduction, requires precise regulation to ensure the correct progression of meiotic stages. In yeast and animals, errors in meiotic recombination and homologous chromosomes synapsis bring a surveillance mechanism

Quantitative genetics of maize (Zea mays L.) during seedling establishment under cool conditions : a thesis presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Agricultural Science in Plant Science at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Two experiments were conducted to study cool tolerance in maize (Zea mays L.). The first experiment was carried out under controlled environment to evaluate several genotypes from five synthetic populations which are currently being used to develop ...

Human Brain Vasculature‐on‐a‐Chip Model Constructed With Microvessels Isolated From Cryopreserved Postmortem Human Brain Tissue

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This manuscript describes the cultivation of viable microvessels from cryopreserved human brain tissue. When embedded in hydrogels and cultured in microfluidic devices, these microvessels exhibit complex architectures reminiscent of arterioles and capillaries, can be perfused, and display intact barrier function. Collectively, these results demonstrate

A Modular Bioinstructive Platform Reveals Mechanistic Insights into Additive‐Free, Topography‐Driven Osteogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Engineered microparticle topographies direct human mesenchymal stem cell osteogenesis without biochemical additives. This osteogenic commitment is driven by canonical Hedgehog signaling and followed by temporal IGF‐II engagement. Two‐photon polymerization demonstrates spatial control, enabling the engineering of topographical gradients that pattern ...

Systematic Analysis of the Maize CAD Gene Family and Identification of an Elite Drought-Tolerant Haplotype of ZmCAD6

open access: yesPlants
Drought and salt stresses are major abiotic factors limiting maize yield. Lignin, a key cell wall component, plays a crucial role in boosting plant stress resistance.

Optimizing selection efficiency in maize for the drought prone eastern and southern African environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Breeding for stress tolerance is the most cost effective way of avoiding drought-induced yield reduction in the tropics. Optimizing breeding for drought tolerance at CIMMYT could enhance the effectiveness of this multi-national breeding program and ...

Taming the Immiscibility of Gold, Iron, and Boron to Craft Chemodegradable Nanoparticles for Multimodal Imaging and Radiotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Over half of cancer patients undergo radiotherapy. Laser ablation enabled the synthesis of immiscible Au‐Fe‐B nanoparticles designed as degradable bimodal radiosensitizers for X‐ray radiotherapy (XRT), boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT), and bimodal imaging for X‐ray computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These nanosensitizers
