What is make-believe play?: preschool teachers' perspectives
2018The purpose of this research was to explore preschool teachers' understanding of make-believe play in order to aid understanding and enhance further use of teachers as informants in research on children's play. Participants included preschool teachers (n = 10) and faculty members ( n = 3) who teach early childhood educators.

Young Children and Adults’ Sensitivity to Contexts for Social Conventions in Make-Believe Play
The Journal of Genetic Psychology, 2018The author focused on how young children understand the nature of social conventions relating to pretend play. Twenty 4-year-olds, fifteen 6-year-olds, and 20 adults (undergraduate students) listened to vignettes in which a new child in each vignette violated a convention used by other children while playing.

The Importance of Make-Believe Play in the Pre-school Years
2016Make-believe play was important in my own childhood experiences, and during 4 years as a co-ordinator of a Steiner early childhood playgroup I observed the development of language skills, negotiation, planning and interaction that occurred in play. This led me to look into how play was viewed in the pre-school where I did my practicum.
