Hypercoagulability identified in dogs with chronic enteropathy using a point‐of‐care viscoelastic assay

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, EarlyView.
Objectives Thromboelastography (TEG) using the TEG 6s, a point‐of‐care viscoelastic assay, was prospectively evaluated in dogs with chronic enteropathy (CE). Additionally, the study determined whether disease activity, assessed using the Canine Chronic Enteropathy Clinical Activity Index (CCECAI), correlated with TEG 6s parameters.

Chemotherapy‐Induced Neuropathy Affecting the Gastrointestinal Tract

open access: yesNeurogastroenterology &Motility, EarlyView.
Chemotherapy (with/without immunotherapy/radiotherapy) may induce neurotoxic effects on the gastrointestinal innervation. Chemotherapy‐induced enteric neuropathy (CIEN) and, probably, neurotoxicity affecting the extrinsic innervation of the gut and the brain underlie the frequent and impactful gut dysfunctions and brain–gut axis (BGA) disorders ...

Hypophosphatemia in Intensive Care Unit Canine Patients: Occurrence and Association With Mortality and Duration of Hospitalization

open access: yesVeterinary Clinical Pathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Hypophosphatemia is commonly observed in unselected human intensive care unit (ICU) patients, and it has been associated, although inconsistently, with worse outcomes and longer duration of hospitalization (DOH). The incidence of hypophosphatemia and its association with mortality and DOH in ICU canine patients is unknown ...

The mood stabilizers lithium and valproate disrupt hepatic and intestinal farnesoid X receptor signalling and increase bile synthesis in the rat

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract The mood stabilizers lithium and valproate are psychotropic medications widely used in clinical practice. Despite their proven benefits, many individuals stop their treatment due to the adverse effects. Chronic diarrhoea is a common reason for discontinuation of these drugs; however, the underlying mechanisms are unknown.
