Malaria in Nigeria is principally due to Plasmodium falciparum and, to a lesser extent to Plasmodium malariae and Plasmodium ovale. Plasmodium vivax is thought to be absent in Nigeria in particular and sub-Saharan Africa in general, due to the near ...

A randomized open study to assess the efficacy and tolerability of dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine for the treatment of uncomplicated falciparum malaria in Cambodia. [PDF]
OBJECTIVES: To compare the efficacy and tolerability of dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine (DHA-PQP) with that of a 3-day regimen of mefloquine and artesunate (MAS3) for the treatment of uncomplicated falciparum malaria in Cambodia.

Compounds were identified that inhibit the aspartic protease plasmepsin V from Plasmodium vivax. Further development of these compounds identified compounds, such as S‐WM48, that could inhibit both plasmepsin V and plasmepsin X but plasmepsin IX was not significantly inhibited.

Spiroindolone KAE609 for Falciparum and Vivax Malaria [PDF]
KAE609 (cipargamin; formerly NITD609, Novartis Institute for Tropical Diseases) is a new synthetic antimalarial spiroindolone analogue with potent, dose-dependent antimalarial activity against asexual and sexual stages of Plasmodium falciparum. We conducted a phase 2, open-label study at three centers in Thailand to assess the antimalarial efficacy ...

Epidemiology of Latency and Relapse in Plasmodium vivax Malaria [PDF]
Malaria is a major contributor to health burdens throughout the regions where it is endemic. Historically, it was believed that there was limited morbidity and essentially no mortality associated with Plasmodium vivax; however, evidence from diverse settings now suggests that infections with P. vivax can be both severe and fatal.

The stochastic permanence of malaria, and the existence of a stationary distribution for a class of malaria models [PDF]
This paper investigates the stochastic permanence of malaria and the existence of a stationary distribution for the stochastic process describing the disease dynamics over sufficiently longtime. The malaria system is highly random with fluctuations from the disease transmission and natural deathrates, which are expressed as independent white noise ...

We provide a step‐by‐step guide for producing E140 antigen fragments from Plasmodium berghei (Pb1) and Plasmodium vivax (Pv1). Pb1/Pv1 are expressed in E. coli, solubilized by freeze–thawing, refolded by slow dilution, purified by affinity chromatography (IMAC), then concentrated and subjected to quality control.
